Biden is set to deploy military staff to support hospitals.

WASHINGTON — President Biden plans to announce on Thursday the deployment of 1,000 military medical personnel to six states to help hospitals deal with a surge in cases from the Omicron variant, White House officials said.

Mr. Biden is scheduled to appear alongside Lloyd J. Austin III, the defense secretary, and Deanne Criswell, the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, at the White House to detail the teams heading to hard-hit communities across the country. Mr. Biden said late last month that he would be tapping the military to help hospitals early in January.

Officials said the new teams of doctors, nurses and other medical personnel would begin arriving at hospitals in Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio and Rhode Island. They said the teams would help triage patients arriving at hospitals, allowing short-staffed emergency departments to free up space.

Since Thanksgiving, when Omicron was first discovered in South Africa, the administration has sent over 800 military and emergency personnel to 24 states, tribes and territories, officials said, not counting the personnel Mr. Biden is set to announce on Thursday.

>So it looks like Kazakhstan was a coup attempt, and Russia stopped it

Russian-Led Alliance Begins Withdrawing Troops From Kazakhstan

The force was deployed a week ago to stabilize the Central Asian country after political unrest that left dozens dead and thousands injured.

MOSCOW — A Russian-led military alliance on Thursday began the process of withdrawing troops from Kazakhstan, Moscow said, after a weeklong deployment that helped stabilize the Central Asian country after a wave of political unrest that left dozens dead and thousands injured.

Troops of the alliance, the Collective Treaty Security Organization, a NATO-like group that includes Russia and five other former Soviet states, have begun handing over strategic facilities that they were guarding to the local authorities and were preparing to leave the country, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Russian and Kazakh officials had said this week that the troops would be withdrawn once the unrest had been brought under control, amid concerns among many in Kazakhstan that they would be stationed indefinitely in the country, permanently anchoring it in the Kremlin’s sphere of influence.

Many people in Kazakhstan had “negative” feelings about the presence of Russian troops in their country and therefore “the decision was made to announce as quickly as possible that their mission had been fulfilled,” Dimash Alzhanov, a political analyst, said in a phone interview from Almaty, Kazakhstan.

By extending a helping hand at the time of crisis, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia had achieved a geopolitical triumph, Mr. Alzhanov said. But “such a favor has its own price and will not be forgotten,” the analyst noted. “We will know what that price will be later.”

I wonder how many Russians will be staying though? How long will the withdrawal phase last? Like you said, I suspect we will learn more in the weeks to come.

President Trump’s Former CIA Director Gina Haspel Joins Attorneys Rod Rosenstein and Sally Yates at International Law Firm

Birds of a feather flock together.

Former CIA Director Gina Haspel joined law firm King and Spalding. Her bio says:

Former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Gina Haspel is a senior national security advisor for King & Spalding’s National Security and Corporate Espionage practice. She advises clients on globally significant projects, drawing on her unique experience as Director of the CIA to counsel clients on national security, information technology, cybersecurity and other issues. In particular, she helps the firm’s corporate, private equity, family office and other global clients to assess and manage institutional risks.

Haspel was in the UK during the beginnings of the Russiagate scandal against the candidate and then President Trump.

Haspel joins Rod Rosenstein who famously took over the DOJ under Jeff Sessions and ran the corrupt and criminal Russia collusion sham. Rosenstein signed a second scope memo to keep the investigation going even though there was no evidence to do so. This was all an illegal effort to remove President Trump from office.

'U.S. Diplomats in Geneva, Paris Struck With Suspected "Havana Syndrome"’

Mysterious neurological ailment has afflicted as many as 200 U.S. officials in diplomatic posts world-wide

WASHINGTON—Officials serving at U.S. diplomatic missions in Geneva and Paris are suspected to have been afflicted with the mysterious neurological ailment known as Havana Syndrome and at least one was evacuated back to the U.S. for treatment, people familiar with the incidents said.

Suspected attacks on U.S. officials serving in the two European cities were reported internally last summer to officials at those posts and eventually to the State Department in Washington. The diplomats joined as many as 200 others who came down with suspected Havana Syndrome while stationed in China, South America, and elsewhere in Europe.

At least three Americans serving at the consulate in Geneva, a city that hosts nearly a dozen major multilateral organizations, were suspected to have been afflicted by the syndrome, which the Biden administration has dubbed an “anomalous health incident.” At least one of those officials was medevaced from Switzerland to the U.S. for treatment. The mission’s leadership later informed staff about the incidents during a town hall meeting. In Paris, senior embassy officials informed diplomats via email about a suspected case, the officials said, and encouraged others to report any unusual symptoms.

The State Department didn’t respond to a request for comment, and typically doesn’t comment on reported incidents, citing privacy.
