ATTN ALL ANONS
Have been discussing in several breads the idea of having ONE SINGLE BANNER for the General Breads so far (>>15575312 in #19696, >>15581152 in #19703). We had this once and it worked well – anons seemed proud of the banner until then. Later a baker decided to vary the banner, and did it wo/asking anons for their input. After that, there was no one banner used. Some of the variations captured the same spirit of freedom as the original, but others were pretty cringy.
Issue came to a head in a recent bread where baker posted Papi on the banner, which was controversial because anons vary is their ideas about him. So not a universal symbol. Heated discussion arose.
Admin position:
''Whatever the banner is, it should represent values upon which all or most anons can agree, like freedom, valor, honor, unity, and courage under fire.''
The only way we can see to support that idea is to have a SINGLE BANNER once again. One adopted based on anon input. The main objection raised was that it stifles the creative expression of bakers. We would reply: It's fine for bakers to express themselves, just not to use the banner for it. They can post an image or meme during handoffs or when posting notes. They can also post off duty, as anons, as we all do.
So we did decide to do a contest to pick a single image.
How it works
-
We'll soon post a PINNED THREAD where anons can post the banner they would like to see represent the board.
-
We ask that all submissions include the reasons why this particular image should be chosen (2-3 sentences minimum).
-
Anons can NOM banners by replying; can just say NOM or give reasons.
-
ANONS PROPOSING WILL HAVE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY TO POST BANNERS. Anons can reply at any time. Deadline for submission is Saturday midnight EST. Deadline for comments is Sunday noon.
-
Depending on results, we'll either announce the winner on Monday – will be in Globals – or do a runoff in case of neck-and-neck results.
''Let's give this a try, anons – truly think it will help bring greater unity and restore the WWG1WGA spirit of the board. ''
