The federal judge overseeing the contentious and long-delayed capital case of accused Tree of Life shooter Robert Bowers is leaving the bench next month and the case will be reassigned to another judge, along with all of her other cases.

Senior U.S. District Judge Donetta Ambrose, 76, is going on inactive senior status starting Feb. 1.

Chief U.S. District Judge Mark Hornak wrote in an order in the Bowers case that it and all of Judge Ambrose's other pending cases will be redistributed randomly by the clerk of courts to other judges, the usual practice when a judge retires.
