Acknowledging feelings is one thing. Wallowing in them, and worse: letting someone else control their articulation, just wastse time and exposes you to manipulation.

NO.
But the very weirdness and efforts they take to attack him, indicate continued attention, even if just to, hopefully, assist in his safety.
