Ronald Regan used the family bible given to him by his mother for both his swearing ins in 1981 and 1985. George H W Bush used family Bible, open to Matthew 5, and the Bible used by George Washington (belonging to St.Johns Masonic Lodge No. 1), opened at random.

In his first inauguration in 2009 Barack Obama used the Lincoln Bible and in his second inauguration he also used the Dr Martin Luther King Jrs Bible. Trump will be sworn-in using his Bible, as well as the same Bible that President Lincoln used at his first inauguration.

The Lincoln family Bible, which is in the Library of Congress? collection, had been packed with other belongings that were traveling from Springfield.

The Bible itself is bound in burgundy velvet with a gold-washed white metal rim around the three outside edges of both covers.

All its edges are heavily gilt. In the center of the top cover is a shield of gold wash over white metal with the words Holy Bible chased into it.

The book is 15 cm long, 10 cm wide, and 4.5 cm deep when closed. The 1,280-page Bible was published in 1853 by the Oxford University Press.

In the back of the volume, along with the seal of the Supreme Court, it is annotated: "I, William Thomas Carroll, clerk of the said court do hereby certify that the preceding copy of the Holy Bible is that upon which the Honorable.

R B Taney, Chief Justice of the said Court, administered to His Excellency, Abraham Lincoln, the oath of office as President of the United States. PTI LKJ KJ ABH KJ

Donald Trump will be sworn into office today using a Bible given to him by his late Lewis-raised mother, it has been revealed.

The president-elect’s Bible selection references his Presbyterian upbringing in Jamaica, Queens, in New York City.

His mother, Mary Anne Trump (nee Macleod) gave it to him on June 12, 1955, upon his graduation from Sunday Church Primary School at First Presbyterian Church on Children’s Day.

“The Bible is a revised standard version published by Thomas Nelson and Sons in New York in 1953 and is embossed with his name on the lower portion of the front cover,” Tom Barrack, the inauguration chairman, said in a statement. “The inside cover is signed by church officials and is inscribed with his name and the details of when it was presented.”

Mary Anne Macleod was born on May 10, 1912.

Her father, Malcolm, was a fisherman and he and his wife, Mary Smith, raised their family in Tong.

The 17-year-old Mary Anne emigrated to the USA in 1929, and shortly after met her future husband, Fred Trump, a successful property developer and philanthropist based in New York.

They married in 1936, and had two daughters and three sons.
