Most of us need no help in seeing what is mean and small about the world, nor is much encouragement required to do so.
It is more difficult for most of us to see what is beautiful, the harmonies that exist even in the most profane material circumstances.
For example Christ, (in one of the 'apocryphal' gospels) and his disciples come upon the decomposed corpse of a dog on the road.
How ugly and disgusting is death and decay the disciples explained. While Christ noted the beauty of the shining white teeth.
If we don't pay attention we will not hear the signal embedded in the noise.
We can follow beauty out of the trap only if we are attentive.
