The three volumes of The Gulag Archipelago were first published in English in 1973-1978, and most recently reprinted in 2007 by HarperCollins. The abridged English version of The Gulag Archipelago was first published in 1985, and most recently reprinted in 2018 by Vintage Classics. There is also a new (2019) audiobook recording of the abridged version, read by one of the author’s sons, Ignat Solzhenitsyn.

The S-550 may be rumorware or vaporware but there are some interesting claims about its capabilities:

The Russian Defence Ministry announced on November 9th the development of the S-550 air defence system, which state media outlets implied could be related to the S-500 as pictures of the older system were published with the announcement. The statement indicated that during meetings in Sochi from 1-3 November Russian President Vladimir Putin "made a special emphasis on the importance of the advanced development of domestic air defence-missile defence systems, and deliveries of the S-350, S-500, S-550 to the Armed Forces." Further details about the new system were not given. The first pictures of the S-500 were unveiled in July following a test launch at the Kapustin Yar test range targeting a mock ballistic missile, and the long-delayed missile system is expected to enter service before January 2022. Serial production of the system began in August, and the S-500 will be capable of engaging both high value aircraft such as heavy bombers and AEW jets, as well as intercontinental range ballistic missiles and satellites.

TWO HUNDRED YEARS TOGETHER

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s Two Hundred Years Together, a two-volume history of Russian-Jewish relations, initially grew out of The Red Wheel, his monumental opus on the Russian Revolution. In The Red Wheel Solzhenitsyn had shown the Revolution in full complexity; and indeed—to avoid boiling down that complexity or skewing it via the narrow prism of Russian-Jewish relations—he gave The Red Wheel priority of publication in every major language, ahead of Two Hundred Years Together. Now that the full Red Wheel is well on its way to being published in English, an authorized translation of Two Hundred Years Together is in progress and scheduled for publication in 2024.

After a sojourn in Zurich, Solzhenitsyn moved to Vermont in 1976 with his wife and sons. Over the next eighteen years, spent mostly in the quiet of rural seclusion, Solzhenitsyn would complete his epic historical cycle, The Red Wheel, as well as several shorter works. In his essays and speeches throughout the free world, he decried the weak will displayed by Western governments in the face of continuing manifestations of Communist aggression. He also warned against the dangers of encroaching materialism for East and West alike.
