Report: Justice Sonia Sotomayor Working Remotely Because Gorsuch Refuses to Wear Face Mask in Court

US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is still working remotely because fellow justice Neil Gorsuch refuses to wear a face mask.

Triple vaxxed Sotomayor, 67, is overweight and has diabetes so she is at high risk for severe illness or death from Covid.

Someone should tell Sotomayor that a face mask is not going to stop her from getting Covid.

It was pretty jarring earlier this month when the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court took the bench for the first time since the omicron surge over the holidays. All were now wearing masks. All, that is, except Justice Neil Gorsuch. What’s more, Justice Sonia Sotomayor was not there at all, choosing instead to participate through a microphone setup in her chambers.

Sotomayor has diabetes, a condition that puts her at high risk for serious illness, or even death, from COVID-19. She has been the only justice to wear a mask on the bench since last fall when, amid a marked decline in COVID-19 cases, the justices resumed in-person arguments for the first time since the onset of the pandemic.

Now, though, the situation had changed with the omicron surge, and according to court sources, Sotomayor did not feel safe in close proximity to people who were unmasked. Chief Justice John Roberts, understanding that, in some form asked the other justices to mask up.

A couple weeks ago Sonia Sotomayor falsely claimed that over 100,000 children are hospitalized and in serious condition because of Covid.

“Many are on ventilators,” Sotomayor said.

This is a lie and the Supreme Court still has not corrected the record.

Gov. Hochul’s budget projects $1.25 billion in revenue from pot sales over 6 years

New York is set to reach new highs starting in 2023 — thanks to legalized pot.

The state plans to reap more than $1.25 billion in new revenue from legal marijuana sales during the next six years, according to the fiscal 2023 spending plan unveiled Tuesday by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

The first year’s take is a relatively puny $56 million, with most of the money — $40 million — coming from licensing fees paid by growers and sellers, based on figures in the briefing book on Hochul’s proposed $216.3 billion budget.

Those fees are expected to start rolling in later this year and storefront sales of recreational marijuana are likely to begin next year, state Budget Director Robert Mujica said during an afternoon briefing in Albany.

Once the business begins booming, projections show the state will collect rapidly increasing revenues that reach $363 million in fiscal 2028.

Recreational marijuana was legalized as part of last year’s budget process and Hochul made the budding industry a high priority when she succeeded former Gov. Andrew Cuomo following his resignation over a sexual harassment scandal last year.

Cannabis products will be taxed by the state on the amount of THC — the chemical compound that gets people stoned — they contain, according to the budget briefing book, which doesn’t specify that rate.

The state will also collect a 9 percent excise tax and local governments will collect a 4 percent excise tax, in addition to state and local sales taxes.

Forty percent of the state’s revenues will go to education, with another 40 percent earmarked for a new “Community Grants Reinvestment Fund” and the remaining 20 percent to drug treatment programs.

The state Office of Cannabis Management will seek to award half of the state’s licenses to “social and economic equity applicants,” including minority- and women-owned companies, struggling farmers, ex-cons and disabled military veterans, according to the budget briefing book.

White House: Russia Could Launch Attack on Ukraine ‘at Any Point’

The White House raised more concerns about the future of Ukraine on Tuesday, as Russians amass troops at the border.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki raised the alarm during the daily briefing.

“We believe we’re now at a stage where Russia could at any point launch an attack on Ukraine,” Psaki said. “I would say that’s more stark than we have been.”

President Biden has repeatedly talked tough with Russian President Vladimir Putin about Ukraine, but tensions continue to rise over Russia’s decision to deploy troops in the region.

“President Putin has created this crisis by amassing 100,000 troops along Ukraine’s borders,” she said.

Russia had begun evacuating families of staff at their diplomatic locations in Ukraine, an indication that they plan to escalate activity in Russia, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

“Our view is that this is an extremely dangerous situation,” she said.

Psaki said Secretary of State Tony Blinken would meet with his Russian counterpart in Switzerland this week to urge Putin not to invade Ukraine and warn of “severe” consequences if they chose to do so.

“No option is off the table,” she said.

Michigan Democrats Delete Facebook Post Critical of Parents' Role in Education

Democrats are paying the price for being the toadies of teachers’ unions. They lost the governor’s race in Virginia because of their obeisance to the union and are now about to pay the price with parents of children nationwide who have had enough of liberals indoctrinating their kids.

That’s because Democrats just don’t know when to back off and soft-peddle their education agenda.

In Michigan, Democrats posted a message to Facebook that was so awful that they were forced to delete it.

The initial post said that parents who want to control what their children are learning “have the option to choose to send their kids to a hand-selected private school at their own expense if this is what they desire.”

“The purpose of a public education in a public school is not to teach kids only what parents want them to be taught,” the now-deleted post added. “It is to teach them what society needs them to know. The client of the public school is not the parent, but the entire community, the public.”

Who determines what “society needs them to know”? It’s a noble aspiration, but everyone knows that, in practice, it’s a bunch of horse manure. It’s the teacher’s unions who determine what “society” wants kids to know — whether society wants them to know it or not.
