This is deceptive anons. This only affects the "Radar Altimeter" aka the "Radio Altimeter which is only use on low visability approaches. Becomes active at about 2300' on approach and is active on take off until about the same.
This has nothing to do with the aircraft's normal altimeter system whcih is driven by the resulting air pressure into the pitot tubes and static ports which is then fed to the Air Data system then on to the altimeter, airspeed indicator etc……..Pitot tube on the vertical stabilizer feeds the elevator feel and centering unit to provide artificial feel to the control column.
While very, very important on low approaches not so much even during CAT I approaches or on a normal cear weather day.
