Fauci Argued Benefits of Gain-of-Function Research Outweighed Pandemic Risk in 2012 Paper'

Scientists working in this field might say โ€“ as indeed I have said โ€“ that the benefits of such experiments and the resulting knowledge outweigh the risks. It is more likely that a pandemic would occur in nature, and the need to stay ahead of such a threat is a primary reason for performing an experiment that might appear to be risky.

However, thereโ€™s no evidence that this pandemic came from nature, despite the continued attempts to obfuscate by the Chinese regime and others who have an incalculable stake in evading blame. So it seems the wrong bet was placed. The consequences of this kind of experimentation going awry have now been felt, and are continuing to be felt and to multiply. Should we not be asking, and very, very loudly: Was it worth it? And what can we do to prevent it happening again?

Hochul Funnels Money to Catholic Schools in NY

The Catholic Action Network (CAN), an arm of the New York State Catholic Conference, gives us all a larger voice in the halls of government. Through our email and social media alerts, CAN reaches tens of thousands of Catholics like you to provide educational updates on the important issues being debated and to provide you with the tools to simplify the process of contacting your elected officials.

Governor Kathy Hochul released her first state budget proposal this week and while she recommends increasing support for public schools by some 7 percent, her recommended increases in funding to support Catholic and other religious and independent schools amounts to an 18 percent increase. Specifically, Governor Hochul triples funding for health, safety, and security projects in our schools (from $15 million to $45 million) and allows nonpublic schools, for the first time, to use the funds to support critical maintenance and repairs of school facilities. Governor Hochul also increases support for Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) instruction in our schools from $40 million to $55 million. Please join us in sending a quick note thanking Governor Hochul for supporting our Catholic schools!

NY Academy of Science Pushing Global 'Science' Initiative

..to save the world from Wildfires?

The Academy supports basic science. But our mission also advocates for science-based solutions to global problems. One vital step the Academy is taking to apply science-based solutions to global problems is the founding of the International Science Reserve. As a member of our valued community, we wanted to share this new initiative with you first.

The International Science Reserve โ€“โ€“ the ISR โ€“โ€“ is a global network of scientific experts committed to collaborating across borders to help address complex global crises. The HPC Consortium that brought together the Federal government, industry, and academic leaders to provide access to powerful high-performance computing resources in support of COVID-19 research has set a precedent for collaborative action.

Alongside IBM and other prominent organizations, the ISR works to build a network that can augment the work of governmental agencies, academic institutions, and NGOs to accelerate response to global crises by facilitating scientistsโ€™ access to specialized knowledge and technical resources.

The ISR is recruiting scientific experts to form international, interdisciplinary teams to participate in readiness exercises, working through responses to simulated crises to develop โ€œbest practicesโ€ for the ISR and strategies for effective, science-driven solutions. These simulations will help us deploy scientific expertise to respond to complex global crises when they arise.

We have chosen wildfires as our pilot crisis type. Often spanning borders; wildfires require support from a wide variety of scientific and technical experts. Resources like climate data and remote sensing technology have clear impacts on communities, public health, and the environment.

I invite each and every member of our community to join the ISR and engage with us on this exciting new initiative at our new website isr.nyas.org. Please visit to learn more, and find out how you can be part of and support the ISR.
