While exact statistics can be a challenge to find, it is clear use of the GNU/Linux OS vs. Windows grew significantly during the past three years, it grew by more than 50% from 2020 to 2021.

Yet, the growth of Linux has had to occur organically people finding it themselves as the Free and Open Source computing movement has virtually no marketing budget.
This makes the rise of Linux to what we calculate as somewhere between 6% and 8% market share, or an increase of about 20 million computers in the U.S., in the past three years even more extraordinary to watch. That same percentage was lost by MS Windows. Something is happening.
