Crime and love… two reasons to meet online.
Opportunities to retire from life as a thief don’t come around often. Benny is determined to make this one pay. In her online efforts to help execute her escape plan, after pulling the biggest heist in her career, the last thing on her mind is romance.
When making friends online, Evelina did not expect to find love. After finding her Darby though, she is certain she has stumbled upon her soulmate. She will do whatever it takes to bring Darby to Italy so they can finally meet face to face.
Two women have very different reasons for being online. Will they both get what they want, or will putting trust in someone they have never met in person turn out to be a disaster?
My thoughts…
Stealing a Thief’s Heart is an entertaining read. If you like stories centered in corruption, scandal and villainy, then you will enjoy this. Benny is a thief from Chicago and quite the manipulator. She makes a life stealing from anyone and everyone. She sees an opportunity, snatches it and moves on before the unsuspecting target can blink. She amasses quite a fortune over the years living this dangerous life. After years of thievery and police dodging, she grows tired of it. She longs to end her days of “alt-acquiring,” as she calls to it, and begins to make plans to leave her life of crime. Her plan to end her debauchery and flee Chicago all hinges on enlisting the aid of her online friend from Italy. Benny painstakingly plans every detail, drawing the unknowing and innocent Evelina into her scheme. All goes fairly well until Evelina turns the tables on Benny and steals the one thing she has guarded fiercely all her life: her heart.
The characters are nicely developed in this subversive tale of evasion and dereliction. Evelina is a wonderful. You can’t help but fall in love with her. She comes from a big boisterous family where women are subservient and homosexuality is not accepted. Her innocence is endearing. Benny, however, is the polar opposite of Evelina. She spent her formative years growing up on the street and being mentored by a criminal. She is the product of that upbringing and her moral compass is skewed. However, the tender adoration and love of Evelina evokes positive changes in Benny. Benny’s metamorphosis is essential to this storyline and her character arc. Without it, it the story would fall flat. Benny’s transformation inspires us to believe that love can bring out the best in us!
This is a fun little read. If you like stories that blend crime, drama and love together nicely, then this is one you will want to pick up.
