Deputy AG: DOJ investigating fake Trump electors

Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday the Department of Justice is investigating fake electors supporting former President Trump during the 2020 presidential election.

Fake documents were sent to the National Archives in December alleging electors for the Electoral College supported former Trump in seven states that President Biden had won.

"We've received those referrals. Our prosecutors are looking at those and I can't say anything more on ongoing investigations," Monaco told the outlet.

She did not go into further detail about the elector investigation, but said in a more general sense the department is "going to follow the facts and the law, wherever they lead, to address conduct of any kind and at any level that is part of an assault on our democracy."
