Operation Hawk: 115 people charged, guns and drugs seized in crackdown on Hamzy-Alameddine conflict
A police blitz has crippled alleged criminal networks locked in Sydney's underworld war, as officers charged 115 people and made the mass seizure of guns, drugs and ammunition.
The two-day Operation Hawk was launched by NSW Police on Thursday morning, in what senior detectives described as a plan to "get in the face" of associates of the Hamzy and Alameddine families.
More than 600 police officers, with a sole goal of targeting alleged gang members, flooded the city's streets to 2am on Saturday morning.
In that time, police charged 115 people who, it will be alleged, were members, associates or supporters of the warring crime networks.
Police also seized 18 firearms, 672 rounds of ammunition, nearly $100,000 in cash, and a haul of prohibited drugs with an estimated street value of $1.2 million.
The drugs allegedly included methylamphetamine (ice), MDMA, gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and cannabis.
"In total, police executed 66 Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) searches and crime scene warrants, charging 115 people with a combined 292 offences," police said.
Officers also completed more than 450 bail compliance checks and searched about 200 businesses.
