Elementary School Principal accused of sending sexual messages to boy who was actually detective

TAMPA – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a principal with the Hillsborough County School District on multiple charges after he sent sexually explicit texts to an undercover detective he assumed was a juvenile.

From January 19 to January 27, 2022, undercover detectives were portraying themselves as a 15-year-old boy during a chat operation to identify individuals attempting to exploit children. Derrick McLaughlin, 41, initiated a text conversation on a social media app with the undercover detectives during this time. Over the course of the investigation, McLaughlin attempted to entice the undercover detectives he believed was a teenager to engage in sexual acts. McLaughlin is the principal at Dawson Elementary School in Riverview, FL.

On January 27, 2022, McLaughlin was taken into custody. He faces charges of Transmission of Harmful Material to a Minor, Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communications Device, and Use of Computer Services or Devices to Solicit Certain Illegal Acts. McLaughlin made suicidal comments at the time of his arrest and has been placed under a Baker Act.

“It’s sickening that a trusted member of our community, a school principal, would take advantage of a child for his own self-gratification,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Thankfully, it was not a child, but one of our detectives, who was on the receiving end of his obscene messages. No child should be subjected to the disturbing behavior put on display by McLaughlin.”

There is no indication that there are any additional victims at this time. The investigation remains active.

'Totally misleading propaganda': Story condemned for saying Spotify lost more than $2 billion after Neil Young removed

Variety, an entrainment news outlet, was promptly bashed for promoting "misleading propaganda" after claiming Spotify lost more than $2 billion in market value following the removal of Neil Young's music.

Spotify dropped Young's music from its platform after he issued the streaming service an ultimatum. Young said that Spotify "can have Rogan or Young … not both." Spotify ultimately chose Rogan.

What are the details?

On Saturday, Variety published a story with a headline that read, "Spotify Lost More Than $2 Billion in Market Value After Neil Young Pulled His Music Over Joe Rogan’s Podcast."

"Spotify’s market capitalization fell about $2.1 billion over a three-day span this week, coming after folk rocker Neil Young yanked his songs from the audio-streaming giant to protest Joe Rogan’s misinformation-spreading podcast," the story explained.

The news outlet was sharply criticized for the framing of its story because the headline suggested that Young's removal from Spotify was the reason for a loss in Spotify's market value. But as the article explained, Spotify had been hemorrhaging market value for months before the controversy with Rogan, and its value actually rose one day before the story was published.

Feds accuse Miami gun dealer of selling unregistered machine guns, auto-switches

Miami, Florida — Miami federal prosecutors have charged the owner of a South Florida federally licensed gun shop, along with another of the shop’s operators, with various federal firearms crimes relating to illegal cash sales of unregistered machine guns, silencers, and other devices.

Defendant Manuel Reguiera, 50, owns Miami Gun Shops, Inc, a federally licensed firearms store, and operates it with Defendant Anderson Rabel, 38. According to the criminal complaint affidavit, on different dates from November 2021 to January 2022, defendants stored, sold and, in some cases, assembled fully automatic short-barreled rifles, AR-style pistols, and silencers. None of the rifles, pistols, or silencers had serial numbers, the weapons were all sold for cash, and code words were used when speaking about the illegal firearms over the telephone, says the affidavit. It is alleged that in connection with these weapons sales, Reguiera and Rabel failed to complete federally required paperwork, failed to initiate background checks on the buyer, and even failed to check the buyer’s identification, all of which federal law requires.

The criminal complaint affidavit also alleges that Reguiera sold “switch” devices. When installed, a switch allows a firearm to expel more than one bullet by a single pull of the trigger, turning the weapon into a fully automatic machine gun.

Reguiera and Rabel made their initial federal court appearances today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lisette Reid, who sits in Miami. Reguiera and Rabel are each charged with possession of an unregistered firearm; unlawful transfer of a firearm; and conspiring to do the following: possession of an unregistered firearm, unlawful transfer of a firearm, failure to keep proper records as required by federal laws, and failure to conduct required background checks. They each face up to ten years’ imprisonment, if convicted.

Wear a green square to show solidarity against Islamophobia

CUPE recognizes January 29 as the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia. On this day in 2017, an Islamophobic white supremacist murdered six Muslim men as they prayed at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City. Many more were injured. This terrorist attack affected and continues to afflict many families, friends, neighbours, and communities across Canada, leaving us all with a sense of horror and overwhelming sadness.

In January 2020, Muslim communities initiated the Green Square Campaign of solidarity and hope. The campaign encourages all Canadians to wear a patch of green fabric from January 25 to January 29 in memory of the victims and to be in solidarity with everyone who continues to suffer the consequences of this hateful violence.

On the fifth anniversary of this Islamophobic attack, it is important to take the time to reflect on why the massacre took place. As difficult as this may be, we must recognize the reality that Canada is not immune to hate, division and racism. The number of police-recorded hate crimes, according to Statistics Canada, remains high compared to recent years.

At our 2021 National Convention, delegates adopted a resolution to build on our work dismantling government legislation and policies that perpetuate xenophobia, Islamophobia, and all other forms of hate. This work aligns with our newly adopted Anti-Racism Strategy.

CUPE members and allies are encouraged to continue to speak out against Islamophobia and all forms of racism and discrimination.

What can you do:

Participate in the Green Square Campaign to stand in solidarity with the families that are left to deal with the tragedy of this Islamophobic attack.

Use a green virtual background for all virtual meetings from January 25 to January 29.

Learn about the work of the National Council of Canadian Muslims and the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group to combat racism and human rights violations in Canada.

Participate in an event commemorating January 29 or organize one in your community.

Read, build on and share the Canadian Labour Congress’ report: Islamophobia at Work: Challenges and Opportunities

Register for a CUPE workshop on racial justice, Indigenous issues, and human rights.

On January 29, join with others in virtual vigils across the country and events to commemorate the victims of the Quebec Mosque attack and to let their friends and family members know that they are not alone. And wear a green square in hope.

UN panel to confront Russia as US considers vote on the ‘mother of all’ sanctions

The US ambassador to the United Nations said the Security Council would confront Russia over its military threat against Ukraine as two senators predicted a vote as soon as this week on the “mother of all sanctions” against the Kremlin.

Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US ambassador to the United Nations, said the Security Council on Monday would press Russia on its massive troop buildup along Ukraine’s border and fears that an invasion is imminent.

“They know that they cannot block the meeting and I expect that, knowing what we’re dealing with, that they will make an attempt,” Thomas-Greenfield said on ABC News’ “This Week,” noting Russia’s veto power as one of the council’s permanent members.

“But the Security Council is unified, our voices are unified in calling for the Russians to explain themselves. We’re going to go into the room prepared to listen to them, but we’re not going to be distracted by their propaganda and we’re going to be prepared to respond to any disinformation that they attempt to spread during this meeting,” she said.

The US has warned that an attack on Ukraine would spark “severe” economic consequences for Russia but there has been disagreement about pre-emptive sanctions.

Those divisions may have been resolved as Sen. Bob Menendez, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, floated the idea that some penalties may be imposed immediately to deter Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“There are some sanctions that really could take place up front because of what Russia’s already done — cyberattacks on Ukraine, false-flag operations, the efforts to undermine the Ukrainian government internally,” Menendez (D-NJ) said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

In the event of an invasion, Menendez said the Kremlin would face “the mother of all sanctions” targeting Russian banks to cripple the country’s economy.

At the same time, US would step up supplying Ukraine with lethal aid.

”These are sanctions beyond any that we have ever levied before,” Menendez said.

Sen. James Risch, the ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said a bipartisan group of senators are prepared to vote on the measures to deter Putin.

He said he didn’t think the Russian leader has made up his mind on invading Ukraine but warned the US must show strength and unity in the face of the threat.

Hmmmm so who is running the UAE??????

In meeting with UAE Jewish leaders, Herzog says he draws inspiration from MBZ

President thanks Netanyahu, Trump for forging Abraham Accords; says Biden is working with Israel to expand them

President Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal met with representatives of the Emirati Jewish community on Sunday night in Abu Dhabi.

Herzog expressed his thanks to the United Arab Emirates’ powerful Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed — known as MBZ — calling the UAE’s de facto ruler “a bold leader, an amazing leader with whom I spent a few hours today and from whom I drew immense inspiration.”

The president also thanked former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, past US president Donald Trump, and Bahrain’s King Hamid bin Isa al Khalifa for bringing about the Abraham Accords.

He added that along with US President Joe Biden’s administration, Israel’s leadership is working to sign normalization agreements with more Islamic countries.

Rabbi Elie Abadie, senior rabbi of the Jewish Council of the Emirates, told The Times of Israel that “it was emotional to see the president of the State of Israel here in an Arab country for the first time in history.”

Herzog told the community leaders that his unscheduled meeting at MBZ’s private palace earlier in the day was “very warm, frank and informal,” according to Abadie. The two leaders spoke about how they could further expand the Abraham Accords, he said.

Abadie said he told Herzog “how well we live in the UAE, how protected we feel, how welcome we feel, and that we have a community that services not just the local Jews, but all those that traveled from Israel and around the world with places of worship, with kosher food, with learning.”

There are around 500 Jews active in the Jewish community in the UAE, according to Abadie’s estimate.

Herzog’s visit “gives us a sense of recognition, a sense of acceptance, a sense of representation, and a sense that we are not orphans,” said Abadie. “It’s a good feeling.”

Earlier in the day, Herzog met with MBZ for over two hours.

After Accounting for Only Court Confirmed Legal Votes from Last Week’s Ruling in Pennsylvania, President Trump Crushed Biden by a 2 to 1 Ratio in the State!

Attorney Wally Zimolong in Pennsylvania won a case last week where the courts agreed that the state’s constitution does not provide for ‘no excuse’ mail-in balloting.

Steve Bannon’s War Room had attorney Wally Zimolong on to talk about the use of absentee ballots in the state of Pennsylvania. He filed a suit in the state in which the court last week agreed that the law of Pennsylvania does not allow “no excuse” mail-in balloting. This ruling said the attempt to allow such mail-in balloting was invalid from the start, meaning before the 2020 election.

Attorney Wally Zimolong won the case last week where the Appeals court in Pennsylvania ruled that ‘no excuse’ mail-in absentee ballots were not provided for in Pennsylvania’s constitution.

We wrote about the fraud in the 2020 Election in Pennsylvania on November 11th, 2020. Here is some of what we reported:

According to Pennsylvania’s election returns website, on election day President Trump won nearly two-thirds of all votes cast in the state.

The President won 2.7 million votes compared to Biden’s 1.4 million votes. The President’s votes were near twice as many as Joe Biden’s!

But what happened next was shocking. Pennsylvania began counting ballots by mail. There was no reporting on how many votes were outstanding at the end of election night. There was no reporting ever that we are aware of where the state announced how many votes were left to count after the election.

They just kept counting.

The state also allowed votes to come in for three more days after the election. Of course, these were all mail-in ballots. We do not know how many mail-in votes came in during these three days. The Republicans were not allowed to observe the counting of these votes even though a court order was in place demanding that the state do so. These actions go against Pennsylvania’s constitution which state that the voting process is to be determined by the legislature. The change in ruling was implemented by the executive and judicial branches. This is an important issue with the Trump campaign in their complaints against the state as they try to undo the injustices in Pennsylvania.

Today [November 11, 2020] the state is reporting more than 2.5 million mail-in ballots. This number was never seen before in this state. As the mail-in ballots were counted, the state began cutting into the President’s 675,000 vote lead and eventually they gave the election to Biden. Biden won 2 million of the 2.5 million mail-in ballots.

How could the President receive only one fifth of the mail in ballots after crushing Biden in in-person voting on Election Day? The answer is: this was basically impossible. And here’s why.

When we looked at these statistics and we identified a pattern that is virtually mathematically impossible. The President won two thirds of the Election Day vote. But with the basic exception of Philadelphia, the President won around 80% of the vote in each county in the state. (See the blue line in the chart below showing the percent of total election day votes won by President Trump.) Philadelphia is so large that it offsets these numbers and brings the President’s results down to around 65% of the state’s votes on Election Day.

What happened with the mail in votes is almost statistically impossible (See the orange line below). In almost every county throughout the state, the President was awarded a percent of votes 40% less than the percent the President won on election day (see the grey line below). If Trump won a county by 80% of the vote on Election Day, he won 40% of the mail-in vote for a county. If the President won 60% of the vote on Election Day, he won 20% of the mail-in vote in another county. This pattern occurred in almost every county with the only noticeable exception of Philadelphia, where the President only earned 30% of the vote on Election Day.

Scandalous deceit of parliament and the public

Last year the New South Wales Parliament was hoodwinked into passing draconian legislation as a result of false statistics about sexual assault. These figures, published on the Law Reform Commission website, wrongly claimed five times more sexual assaults as were actually reported and underestimated ten-fold the proportion of such cases determined in court.

Those inaccurate statistics provided the framework for a campaign to ensure passage of controversial sexual consent laws through parliament. They were widely used to scare parliamentarians and the public into believing that our criminal justice system was failing rape victims.

It has now been proved that the Commission knew their data was wrong before the legislation was introduced but kept quiet. Within two weeks of the bill being passed, they suddenly published a correction on their website.

Was this timing a coincidence or a deliberate tactic to ensure smooth passage of these new laws?

In March last year I questioned the shockingly low figure of two per cent which was being claimed as the conviction rate for rape cases in NSW, showing the data suggested a very different picture, with every effort being made to push sexual assault cases through to trial.

Greg Andresen, one of the most tenacious researchers working on men’s issues, then spent the next nine months on the case, starting with writing to the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) which collects most of the relevant data, seeking clarification. BOCSAR confirmed they had no idea where that two per cent figure had come from and Greg embarked on an investigation seeking to ascertain the real statistics.

He’s put together a timeline of the resulting paper trail as he pursued relevant authorities to find out what happened. At the heart of the problem was a 2020 NSW Law Reform Commission report on the proposed sexual consent legislation which recommended against the enthusiastic/affirmative consent laws being promoted by AG Mark Speakman. The NSW Bar Association warned that these laws ‘would potentially criminalise many sexual relations’ and were likely ‘to result in significant injustice’.

The real purpose of these laws – requiring checking for consent every step of the way throughout lovemaking – is to find more men guilty of rape.

But the Commission’s report was used with great alacrity by the feminist lobby, who seized upon a key statistic included in the publication which claimed that only three per cent of people alleged to have committed sexual offences ended up with a finalised charge. NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller was quick to jump on board, quoted in The Telegraph saying, ‘last year we received more than 15,000 reports of sexual assault. But men continue to get away with it – less than two per cent of reports lead to guilty verdicts in court.’

Note that he’s talking about guilty verdicts, which are naturally less than the finalised charges that include unsuccessful cases. Either way, the tiny numbers are far off the mark.

The Commission screwed up big time, misrepresenting the true number of reported sexual assault incidents by a factor of more than five, which meant the proportion of persons of interest who faced a finalised charge for sexual offences was ten times what they claimed.

Manchester United Star Mason Greenwood Reportedly Arrested Over Rape Charges

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been arrested over allegations of abuse and sexual assault following the release of images and audio to social media.

Greater Manchester area police have not confirmed that Greenwood has been arrested over the allegations, but on Sunday released a statement saying they were aware of “social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.”

They added, without identifying the detained, “An investigation was launched and following enquires we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”

On Sunday morning, Manchester United, through a spokesperson, responded to the allegations saying, “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.”

“We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind,” the spokesperson noted.

By Sunday afternoon, the club had decided that there was enough evidence to make a decision on Greenwood.

“Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice,” a second Sunday statement from United read.

Greenwood, accused of rape and assault, could face jail time if found guilty. In the United Kingdom, there are three categories of harm in rape cases and two degrees of culpability which determine sentencing guidelines.

While life in prison is a possibility in cases of rape, the most severe guideline for sentencing is 15 years in jail. Factors that could see a rapist’s sentence reduced in the UK include no previous convictions, remorse, previous good character, and age/lack of maturity.

Greenwood, 20, is United’s third-leading goal scorer in the Premier League, with five goals. He made his Premier League debut for United at 16 and has 83 Premier League appearances before the age of 21. He joined the club as a seven-year-old and sped through their youth ranks to their first team. He is the club’s youngest ever in a European competition.

In February 2021, United inked Greenwood to a new contract that would have kept him in Manchester until June 2025. The deal included an option to extend for an additional year.
