Two Israeli military officers will be removed from their positions immediately and a third will be formally censured over the death of a 78-year-old Palestinian American man, who suffered a heart attack after he was bound, gagged and abandoned in a half-constructed building by Israeli troops earlier this month, the Israel Defense Forces said Monday night.

The punishments against the commanders are the result of an internal disciplinary probe. A Military Police investigation into the case is ongoing, which will determine if charges will be filed against the soldiers involved.

According to the internal investigation, which was presented to IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi on Monday, a group of soldiers from the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, which operates solely in the West Bank and has been long-plagued by allegations of brutality and abuse against Palestinians, on January 12 set up a checkpoint outside the central West Bank village of Jiljilya, stopping cars and checking the identification documents of people inside.

One of those to pass through the checkpoint was Omar As’ad, 78. According to the soldiers, As’ad refused to identify himself when asked, so they bound his hands with zipties and moved him to the courtyard of a nearby abandoned building in the near-freezing January night. In order to prevent him from calling out and telling others about the checkpoint, the soldiers also gagged him, tying a strip of fabric over his mouth, the probe found.

Three other Palestinians were brought to the same building. When the soldiers decided to pack up the checkpoint roughly half an hour later, they untied the four Palestinians and let them go, according to the investigation.

Russian Army Disrupts GPS Systems In Israeli Airspace

ISRAEL - The Russian army is reportedly disrupting GPS signals with electromagnetic waves in Latakia as well as Ben Gurion Airport, the main airport in Israel according to KAAN news. (This report is based on a translation of the KAAN article originally published in Hebrew).

KAAN news says that in the last few weeks airline pilots have been dealing with a phenomenon that has reoccurred after a '3 year hiatus' where severe GPS disruptions are occurring in aircraft that are preparing to land at the Ben Gurion airport.

The disruptions are reportedly due to the effects of powerful and advanced defense systems of the Russian army that disrupt the electromagnetic waves in the eastern Mediterranean and also disrupts aircraft landing in Israeli airspace.

Israel has demanded that Russia halt the disruptions and said that the 'defensive systems' are harming it, but the Russians have refused saying that the systems are a defensive action to protect their soldiers.

Israel reportedly says that they are working on neutralizing the disruption caused by the Russian systems. Some Israelis say that they believe Russia is trying to show who is the 'landlord' of Syria.

One of the pilots of an Israeli airline stated "These events hit us quite hard in early 2019, so it more or less worked out one way or another. In the last three or four weeks we are starting to re-experience it in the Ben Gurion Airport area. The airlines sent out instructions to the pilots in order to deal with the new phenomenon which included turning off their devices in the cockpit in the event of disruptions.

An official update has not been published by the state of Israel according to KAAN news. Protesters Gather In Front Of Australian Parliament In Solidarity With Ottawa Truck Convoy

Hundreds of protestors have gathered in front of Australia’s Parliament House in solidarity with the massive Convoy to Ottawa that converged on the Canadian capital around the weekend of Jan. 29.

Calls for a similar movement have been echoing Down Under for days, and on Jan. 31, a crowd organised under a “Convoy to Canberra” campaign gathered in front of the national legislature, according to videos circulating on social media.

The crowd can be heard chanting, “What do you want? Freedom! When do we want it? Now!” One individual addressed the crowd saying they had “every right to be here peacefully.”
