Atlanta Mayor Dickens joins Georgia first lady, public officials to condemn human trafficking

A dozen Georgia state leaders and local officials held a Monday press conference at Atlanta’s airport to highlight ongoing partnerships formed to fight human trafficking.

Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp, who has worked with lawmakers to craft anti-trafficking bills, said the General Assembly will consider legislation to add human trafficking to the list of offenses for which bail can be granted only by superior court judges.

The state is opening a second recovery facility for survivors of human trafficking this summer, Kemp said. She also said the proposed state budget offers more resources to the human trafficking prosecution unit in the state attorney general’s office.

Several officials at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport used every word imaginable to castigate the buyers and sellers of trafficking victims. Clayton County Chairman Jeff Turner called human trafficking a hideous crime. Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat called it the most despicable act in society. Balram Bheodari, the airport’s general manager, called a scourge on the planet.

DeSantis Demands Reinstatement of Trump Border Policies to Lift Block on Facilities Accepting Biden’s Migrant Children

The office of Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis last week issued a blistering critique of President Joe Biden’s administration’s efforts to hamper the implementation of a rule the governor released in December to block resettlement of unaccompanied migrant children in state-licensed facilities in the Sunshine State.

This latest push represents a further escalation between the Florida governor and the White House over Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC).

DeSantis’s general counsel Ryan Newman wrote in a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) officials in Biden’s administration:

It is critical that lines of responsibility and accountability are clearly drawn. So long as the Biden administration continues its irresponsible immigration policies, Florida no longer wishes to be involved in the Federal Government’s UAC resettlement program. DCF’s change of policy makes clear that the Federal Government, not the State of Florida, is solely responsible for the care and safety of the UAC that it has chosen to bring into the country.

Newman’s three-page Jan. 26 letter, sent to the deputy General Counsel of HHS, Mark Greenberg, in the Biden administration, was obtained exclusively by Breitbart News ahead of its public release. In the missive, the top DeSantis attorney warns the Biden administration that state-licensed Department of Children and Families (DCF) facilities will lose their licenses if they accept Biden’s migrant children being transported to the state—and that the state of Florida will only reconsider this stance if Biden reinstates former President Donald Trump’s highly effective Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) and Remain-in-Mexico agreements—or something very much like those—that had largely stemmed the flow of migrants into the country. Newman wrote:

Under the emergency order, DCF has no obligation to enter into any cooperative agreement with the Federal Government and it does not intend to do so unless the Federal Government restores the immigration enforcement policies of the prior administration or implements similar such policies. Faithful enforcement of federal immigration law to secure the border, deter illegal immigration, and prevent the surge of illegal aliens at the border, including UAC, is a baseline prerequisite to any future cooperative agreement involving the resettlement of UAC in Florida.

What’s more, even after those policies are reinstated and Biden’s damaging open borders edicts are reversed, DeSantis’s general counsel wrote that the state of Florida would not reopen a new prospective future agreement with the federal government unless several other parameters are met on this front:

In any event, any such future cooperative agreement would need to include, at a minimum, advance notice when UAC are transported into Florida, verification that the UAC are under the age of 18 and do not have a criminal history or affiliation with criminal gangs, and an opportunity for the state to object if the number of UAC transported to Florida becomes excessive as compared to other states.

Rep. Michael McCaul Slams Joe Biden for Omitting the Word ‘China’ from Statement on Anti-China Bill

Ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) slammed President Biden’s policy statement on the Democrats’ “counter China bill” for omitting the word “China.”

“It’s disgraceful the @WhiteHouse Statement of Administration Policy on the bill @SpeakerPelosi claims is a counter #China bill doesn’t even contain the word China,” McCaul tweeted.

“This is proof #COMPETES is not a serious effort to combat the generational threat posed by the CCP [Chinese Communist Party],” he added.

The bill, entitled U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA), is designed to increase funding for semiconductor research to institutions vulnerable to Chinese espionage. Breitbart News reported:

The House Democrat version, the America COMPETES Act, totals 2,900 pages and aims to boost manufacturing, especially in the semiconductor industry. It would also attempt to fix the broken supply chains unfolding under President Joe Biden’s administration.

Lawmakers have increasingly looked to boost domestic semiconductor production after the coronavirus pandemic broke international supply chains and made it difficult to keep up with semiconductor production.

The pivot to the anti-China legislation also serves as the latest gambit for Democrats to seize a win after they failed to pass the $4.91 trillion Build Back Better Act, and Schumer failed to break the filibuster and pass two voter bills.

The United States and the rest of the world rely on Taiwan for 92 percent of semiconductor manufacturing that Silicon Valley utilizes for American innovation.

Democrats claimed last week the legislation will “turbocharge our research capacity to lead the technologies of the future, and advance our global competitiveness, while supporting strong labor standards and human rights, among other key provisions.”

Vice Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence Marco Rubio (R-FL) stated after the release of the bill that the legislation emboldens China to steal American jobs and technology.

“The Chinese Communist Party sees this, and it emboldens them to do even more. Steal more secrets. Steal more technology. Steal more American jobs,” Rubio said. “This dangerous behavior jeopardizes our national security.”

Biden’s Flights of Illegal Aliens into U.S. Cost Taxpayers $340M in 9 Months

President Joe Biden’s transportation of border crossers and illegal aliens into the United States interior cost American taxpayers at least $340 million in the first nine months of 2021, federal data reviewed by Breitbart News reveals.

The data, obtained by Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) following an inquiry to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), shows the extent to which Biden’s massive illegal immigration inflow into the U.S. is costing American taxpayers.

From January 2021 to September 2021, for instance, the Biden administration spent at least $340 million transporting border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. interior.

This figure, though, only applies to border crossers and illegal aliens whom DHS considers “detention-related transportation” and may not include the taxpayer money funneled to federal contractors and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who are facilitating illegal immigration.

The Biden administration has been flying border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. interior for months. The operation, with the help of private companies and NGOs, flies border crossers and illegal aliens from the southern border to small-to-medium-sized airports in New York, Florida, and Pennsylvania, among other states.

Most recently, the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) unveiled that border crossers and illegal aliens are being allowed to board commercial domestic flights by bypassing standard photo ID requirements.

Instead, border crossers and illegal aliens are being allowed to use arrest warrants and federal custody booking records to board flights.

In that same time period, Biden spent at least $212 million to provide medical care to border crossers and illegal aliens in federal custody — paid for by taxpayers.

The data also shows that Biden, as of December 10, 2021, has flown nearly 46,000 Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) into the U.S. interior. This figure does not include the hundreds of thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens who have been released into the U.S. interior since January 20, 2021.

As of last year, that total was around 530,000 border crossers and illegal aliens.

Quid pro quo: donations data shows billionaires and corporations fix politicians for another year

Fossil fuel companies, the Big 4 accountants, billionaires and the usual suspects. The Coalition bag-people came out on top, with more than $15 million more payments given to them than Labor. Callum Foote and Stephanie Tran wrap up 2021’s political payments.

It never ceases to amaze how cheaply politicians, and therefore policy and political protection, can be bought. Released today, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) data for the 2020-21 financial year reveals that $166 million was paid to political parties, with the Liberal Party ranking in $15.4 million more than Labor.

Anthony Pratt’s Pratt Holdings once again tops the political donations league board, donating $1.28 million to the Liberal Party war chest. Pratt Holdings contributed a comparatively meagre $10,000 to the Labor Party.

The world’s largest financial firms, “The Big 4” – PwC, EY, KPMG and Deloitte” picked up $1.74bn in government work over the past 18 months, a fabulous return on their $670,570 “investment”.

Remaining Sexual Harassment Case Against Former Governor Andrew Cuomo Dropped by DA

The final criminal case against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was dropped by the District Attorney’s office on Monday.

Cuomo was found to have sexually harassed multiple women, AG Letitia James announced in August after a 4-month investigation into the accusations.

The Oswego County DA’s office said there was no sufficient legal basis to bring criminal charges against Cuomo in response to allegations of sexual misconduct brought by Virginia Limmiatis.

“After a thorough review of the available evidence and applicable law, the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office has concluded that there is not a sufficient legal basis to bring criminal charges against former-Governor Andrew Cuomo based upon the allegations of unwanted physical contact made by Virginia Limmiatis,” District Attorney Gregory Oakes said Monday.

NBC New York reported:

The fifth and final criminal case opened against former Gov. Andrew Cuomo stemming from a state investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct has closed, the district attorney’s office confirmed, seemingly ending any chances the disgraced governor might face charges in the fallout.

Oakes’ team had been investigating claims made by Virginia Limmiatis, who alleged the governor inappropriately touched her at a 2017 conservation event at Salman River. Limmiatis was one of several women named in the attorney general’s bombshell report in which independent investigators corroborated allegations the governor acted inappropriately.

In his statement, the Oswego district attorney said his decision not to proceed with criminal charges should not cast doubt on “the character or credibility of Ms. Limmiatis.”

“After watching her prior testimony and talking with her, I found her to be reliable and reasonable, seemingly motivated only by an earnest desire to do the right thing, and she was plainly upset by her interaction with then Governor Cuomo as she expressed immediately to friends and family,” Oakes said.

Limmiatis has been the target of Cuomo’s legal team since the release of the report in August 2021, who have long demanded the attorney general revise portions of the document to include photos of him alongside Limmiatis at the 2017 event.

Last month the Manhattan District Attorney’s office closed its investigation into former New York Governor Cuomo’s handling of nursing home deaths.

Cuomo killed thousands of elderly residents in nursing homes with his edict forcing Covid infected individuals back into the elderly care facilities.

Not only did Cuomo kill thousands of elderly, he covered up the data and hid it from the feds.

All criminal cases against Cuomo have now been dropped.

Nothing to see here, move along.

DC health dept. shuts down sports bar for refusing to check patrons' vaccine cards

A sports bar in Washington, D.C., has been shut down for their refusal to enforce social distancing guidelines with its employees and with the bar patrons.

"The Big Board" co-owner Eric Flannery spoke out on Fox News after officials stripped the bar of its liquor license. He said that he objected to his employees being forced to wear masks while the patrons are allowed to go maskless while they are seated and eating.

"It's ridiculous," said Flannery. "And the thing is customers will come in all the time and some will be there and they repeat their orders to us and we're like, 'Oh, it's just my mask, I can't hear it. It's really hard to hear people when you can't see their lips move.'"

On Tuesday, a notice from the D.C. health department said the bar had been shut down until further notice over "imminent health hazards" to the public.

Shortly after the notice appeared, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) visited to eat at the restaurant and to show their support for the owners.

Owners of the bar started a donation campaign to help them pay the thousands in fines they have incurred so far.

"We believe that this decision to shut down our family-owned restaurant - which recently celebrated 10 years on H St - during a time when so many small businesses have already suffered, was unjust and that we are not alone in this belief," they said on their campaign at GiveSendGo. They had already raised more than $18,000 on GoFundMe.

WUSA-TV previously reported that many other restaurants were ignoring the vaccine card mandate, but that the Big Board was far more brazen and outspoken about its defiance of the rules. When they tested about 20 restaurants in the same area, they found that only about half enforced the rules.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser responded to the controversy in a media briefing with reporters.

"We don't want to shut anybody down," claimed Bowser.

"That's how we've approached this throughout this 20-some months of this pandemic," she explained. "We want to give people support, advice, supplies, help, whatever they need, but we do need them to follow the regulations."

Meta Will Allow Solicitation of Human Smuggling on Its Platforms

Policy comes amid surge in Facebook groups devoted to human smuggling

Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, privately announced on Monday that users can use its platforms to solicit human smugglers, a decision that goes against demands by anti-human trafficking groups that urged the tech giant to crack down on the practice.

In an internal announcement of Meta's "human smuggling policy" obtained by the Free Beacon, the company concluded that a crackdown on human smuggling solicitations would hamper the ability for people to use the platform "to seek safety or exercise their human rights." The company said it will maintain its current policy, which prohibits users from offering human smuggling but allows them to solicit smuggling services.

Meta said it reached its policy decision after five months of deliberation that sought out "global perspectives and a broad range of expertise." No specific organizations or groups are named, although Meta said they included "NGOs working with migrants" and "former border enforcement officials." Ultimately, more stakeholders advised the company to allow the solicitations, it said.

"We observed that a slight majority of stakeholders favored allowing solicitations of smuggling services for reasons associated with asylum seekers," the memo reads. "We decided that this was indeed the best option since the risks could be mitigated by sending resources, whereas the risks of removing such content could not be mitigated."

In order to "mitigate the risks" from allowing migrants to seek smugglers on its platforms, Meta said it "proposed interventions such as sending resources to users soliciting smuggling services." It did not elaborate on what those resources may be or whether they would end up effectively discouraging human trafficking. The company said it would allow "sharing information related to illegal border crossing."

The commitment to the controversial policy demonstrates the tech company's willingness to bow to left-wing activists even if it means facilitating illegal activity. An April 2021 report from the Tech Transparency Project identified a surge in Facebook groups devoted to human smuggling. Meta's new policy comes as more migrants attempt to illegally cross into the United States than at any point in the country's history.

Meta spokesman Drew Pusateri confirmed the platform would continue to allow solicitations for human smuggling after its consultation with outside experts.

"We regularly engage with outside experts to help us craft policies that strike the right balance between supporting people fleeing violence and religious persecution while not allowing human smuggling to take place through our platforms," Pusateri said. "At this time, we have no policy changes to announce."

Republican lawmakers have criticized Meta's practice of tolerating human smuggling on its platforms. In May 2021, Rep. Kat Cammack (R., Fla.) wrote a letter to CEO Mark Zuckerberg sharing posts she found on Facebook from potential human smugglers.

"It is unacceptable for an American company to allow a criminal enterprise to use your platform to freely encourage and facilitate criminal activity," Cammack said in the letter.

In response, Meta maintained the platform prohibits "content that either offers or assists with human smuggling" and said it deleted the content highlighted by Cammack.

Meta acknowledges in the memo that its decision comes with "tradeoffs." Allowing the solicitation of smuggling services "can make it easier for bad actors to identify and connect with vulnerable people." It also added that "law enforcement and government bodies … raised concerns that permitting this type of content on our platforms facilitates illegal activity and puts migrants at serious risk of exploitation or death."

Both Republicans and Democrats, including President Joe Biden, have condemned human smuggling operations that bring migrants into the country across the southern border. In July 2021, the White House announced a new "Human Smuggling and Trafficking Task Force" to "disrupt and prevent migrant smuggling and human trafficking operations."

Migrants who enlist the assistance of human traffickers to come across the southern border are often subjected to sexual assault or other forms of violence. A May 2017 report from Doctors Without Borders found 31.4 percent of female migrants who traveled through Mexico into the United States had been sexually abused.

"Migrants and refugees are preyed upon by criminal organizations, sometimes with the tacit approval or complicity of national authorities, and subjected to violence and other abuses—abduction, theft, extortion, torture, and rape—that can leave them injured and traumatized," the report reads.
