A novel opioid trial against a drugmaker CEO could put executives in the painkiller space on alert and deter companies from pursuing innovative medications for fear of liability.
Laurence F. Doud III, former head of Rochester Drug Co-Operative Inc., is on the hook for allegedly scheming to distribute addictive drugs to pharmacies that were previously flagged for questionable practices, and for allegedly blocking efforts to report them to the government. A Manhattan jury began deliberations Tuesday.
Doud, who could face life in prison, is among the few drug company higher ups to face criminal charges for fueling America’s addiction epidemic. It’s also the first time federal prosecutors are trying to leverage Drug Enforcement Administration requirements meant for distributors against an individual executive, legal analysts say.

This is a fucking dog and pony showthe only people they are helping are the cartels and the people they are hurting people like me that need brand name opiod drugs for pain. They’ve scared the pharma companies so bad they all stopped producing brand name hydrocodone (and it works) and we can only get shitty generics made in India that do not work. That a patient ends up taking 25% to 40% more to get relief.
Instead if going after phentynol at the southern border and comes from China that kills, addicts and harms millions of Americans a year; they go after drug makers. While 10 years before the FDA & DEA (why???) told the doctors to dispense as much as they want & needed its not adfictive.
My doctors nurse said her doctor would try to prescribe 10 of them, but the pharmacy would call and said the FDA/DEA, you can only prescribe a minimum of 60 tablets.
And now they are cracking down on legal companies trying to alleviate pain of patients. The only brand drug that worked for me for 11 years was dropped by the company, (they saw what was happening with other Pharmas), even though they charged $600 a month for 30 pills.
I called the company And the rep told me the reason why, is they dont consider it therapeutic! I said, its therapeutic for me and the only one that works for me, I’d rather pay $30 a month but the generics don’t work. She said she had 1,000s of people call that said the sane thing.
The DEA, FDA, our government are the drug cartels tgey should fucking investigate and arrest themselves
