Ottawa City Councillor Demands Government Seize $7 Million Raised By Canadian Truckers

GoFundMe famously caved last week under an immense public backlash and decided to release the first tranche of the millions of dollars raised on the platform to support the Canadian truckers and their "Freedom Convoy" which led a massive protest in Ottawa over the weekend to protest Canada's draconian COVID-related restrictions. The protest seems to have already had some impact on Canadian society, since the Governor of Quebec just yesterday abandoned plans to impose a "health tax" on unvaccinated residents, before whipping out the conciliatory rhetoric about bridge-building.

Unfortunately for the Truckers and their supporters, the Canadian government hasn't stopped trying to end the protest by any means necessary, including - if they must - seizing money that was lawfully raised in a public setting.

To wit, Mathieu Fleury, the Ottawa City Councillor of Rideau-Vanier Ward, announced support Wednesday for the government to launch a legal challenge to seize the remaining GoFundMe donations that had been collected online. He made the announcement in a tweet from his public account, which was set to private shortly after as it was inundated by a wave of supporters voicing their objections to this latest egregious example of government encroachment on liberty.

"This morning, I have asked the city manager and city solicitor to immediately launch court proceedings targeting the millions of dollars in funds frozen by @GoFundMe so Ottawa taxpayers are not left holding the bag for these protests," Fleury said via tweet.

NFL Silent On Brian Flores' Explosive Allegations Of Attempted Game-Fixing By Dolphins Owner

There's no question that the allegations of systemic racism and "token" hiring practices levied against the NFL by Brian Flores (in a class-action lawsuit that was filed on the first day of Black History Month) have gotten most of the attention in the MSM.

But as the press delves further into the details contained in Flores' lawsuit, which was officially filed with the Southern District of New York on Tuesday, it's clear that Flores' allegations don't stop at racism, and also include allegations of game-fixing levied against one of the most powerful people in the League, Miami Dolphins' owner Stephen Ross.

The mainstream press was mostly preoccupied with Ross's claims that he was tricked into a "sham" job interview by the New York Giants because the team had already made up its mind to hire Brian Daboll as the new head coach of the New York Giants before interviewing him, allegedly to satisfy the "Rooney Rule", a league policy requiring that minority candidates be considered for top coaching jobs. As evidence, he cited a series of "mistaken" texts sent by Patriots coach Bill Belichick. He also claimed in the lawsuit that the NFL was managed "like a plantation". But his claims didn't end with the allegedly racist policy.

He also spilled some inside dirt from within the Miami Dolphins organization, from which he had just been unceremoniously fired. Specifically, he accused no less a figure than Miami Dolphins owner and NYC real-estate developer Steve Ross of offering him up to $100K per loss, a price-fixing scandal purportedly borne of a strategy to protect the team's draft pick position.

Flores claims his resistance to ownership's demands (he instead led the Dolphins to their first back-to-back winning seasons since 2003) eventually led to his firing.

Here's what the lawsuit claims:

The Dolphins owner, Stephen Ross, was unhappy with this performance not because it was under-performing. To the contrary, Mr. Ross wanted the Mr. Flores to “tank” the season to put the team in position to secure the first pick in the draft. Indeed, during the 2019 season, Mr. Ross told Mr. Flores that he would pay him $100,000 for each game lost that year. Then, when the Dolphins started winning games, due in no small part to Mr. Flores’ coaching, Mr. Flores was told by the team’s General Manager, Chris Grier, that “Steve” was “mad” that Mr. Flores’ success in winning games that year was “compromising [the team’s] draft position.”

Allegations of game-fixing should be explosive - for all we know it could be the most explosive scandal to rock the league since 'deflategate'. Flores' allegations undoubtedly conjure images of shady organized-crime characters trying to fix the World Series. The former head coach claims he was asked to throw games to protect the team's "draft position". But as Flores correctly claims, allegations like this compromise the "integrity" of the game, which is why he decided to disobey. But it certainly should make NFL fans wonder how much of what they're saying is real, genuine competition, and not pre-arranged match-fixing.

He expanded on this in an interview with CBS This Morning, where he again claim he felt like the request was an attack on his "integrity" which is why he refused to comply. Still, as Gayle King correctly asserts, the look at what goes on "behind closed doors" isn't good.

Cincinnati CBP Seizes $757,000 Worth of Viagra, Cialis, Levitra

CINCINNATI—Since January 1st, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers have seized 21 shipments of improperly imported Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra transiting through the Port of Cincinnati. Officers found approximately 32,556 pills of the prescription drugs in shipments of vitamins, supplements, watches, and other medications. The shipments also contained 1,050 packets of jellies and honey—“miracle honey”—laced with sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra.

Originating from China, India, Malaysia, or Sudan, the medications were headed to individuals in nine states, including Indiana and Kentucky. Had they been legally sold, the pills, jellies, and honey would have been worth nearly $757,000.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) works with CBP to protect consumers from products marketed as dietary supplements that contain any hidden drug ingredients. Because only three percent of online pharmacies reviewed by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy are in compliance with U.S. pharmacy laws and practice standards, purchasing drugs online is risky not only for the consumer’s health, but also their wallet.

“The FDA is concerned about the illegal importation of prescription medications as these drug products may pose a significant risk to patients. Like the products seized by our partners at CBP, these products are not always made under good manufacturing practice conditions,” said Assistant Commissioner for Import Operations Dan Solis. “Prescription drugs should only be used under the supervision of licensed health care professional who is able to identify appropriate therapies for patients and monitor for potential side effects. Our strong relationship with CBP enables this kind of collaborative work and results that best apply each agency’s authority and enforcement tools and protect consumers from potentially dangerous medical products entering the U.S.”

“This is a dangerous game consumers are playing that could have disastrous results,” said LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, Director, Field Operations-Chicago. “Consumers are purchasing these prescription medications from other countries thinking they are getting them at a discount, when in fact they are purchasing an inferior product with unregulated ingredients.”

Aus State media - PANIC - attempt cover up and FAIL

Why have there been more vaccinated than unvaccinated people in intensive care

On the face of it, it seems confusing: data shows there are more vaccinated people than unvaccinated people in ICU in Victoria and New South Wales.

Taken out of context, it can contribute to misinformation or even give an incorrect picture of how effective vaccines are.

But experts say that given the vast majority of Australians are fully vaccinated, the data is not surprising.

We take a look at the figures, and why some people are still suffering adverse outcomes despite being fully vaccinated.

Unvaccinated people are still over-represented in hospitals, death figures

If you look at NSW intensive care numbers in isolation with no other context, it can seem counterintuitive.

Between November 26 and January 8, 215 double-vaccinated people were admitted to intensive care, compared with 55 unvaccinated people, according to a recent COVID-19 surveillance report.

But those 215 people make up less than 0.1 per cent of fully vaccinated COVID-19 cases recorded in that period, while the 55 make up about 1.5 per cent of unvaccinated cases.

That might not sound like a big difference, but it's like a 1 in 1,000 chance of being admitted to intensive care if you're double vaccinated, versus a 15 in 1,000 chance if you're unvaccinated.

In other words, you're 15 times more likely to end up in ICU if you aren't vaccinated.

"The key issue really is not so much the percentage of people in ICU that have a given vaccination status," said Ian Marschner, a professor of biostatistics at the University of Sydney.

"The key issue is really to what extent are unvaccinated people over-represented in ICU? And to what extent are vaccinated people under-represented?

"And it's the relativity of those two things that really gives you information about whether vaccination is protecting against going into ICU."

A similar story is playing out in other parts of Australia.

Police hacked phone of key individual in Netanyahu cases without approval — report

Data reportedly uncovered by investigators during inquiry into NSO affair, said to include photos, texts, phone numbers and more

Police hacked into the phone of a key person involved in the criminal cases against former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and extracted a large amount of data, Hebrew media reported on Wednesday.

According to Channel 12, the person may have been Shlomo Filber, a former director-general of the Communications Ministry and longtime confidant of Netanyahu who is a state’s witness in Case 4000.

In the case, the most severe of the three cases against him, Netanyahu is suspected of advanced regulatory decisions as communications minister and prime minister that benefited Shaul Elovitch, the controlling shareholder in Bezeq, the country’s largest telecommunications firm, despite opposition from the Communication Ministry’s career officials. Police suspect that in exchange he received positive coverage from Elovitch’s Walla news site.

Channel 12 aired patchy voice recordings in which police investigators seem to be discussing hacking a person’s phone, just before conducting an interview with Filber.

The reports come as police reel from accusations that they have repeatedly used hacking software from the NSO Group and others to break into citizens’ phones illegally.

The report did not say whether NSO’s Pegasus program was allegedly used in this case.

Channel 13 reported that the revelation was made as part of an ongoing Justice Ministry inquiry into the NSO affair.

The data retrieved included photos, texts, phone numbers and more, and was taken without a court order, the report alleged.

The network said police have told justice officials that the matter is being looked into, but that the material remained in the tech unit and was not handed over to investigators in the case or to prosecutors.

Channel 13 noted that the discovery could cause serious delays in Netanyahu’s trial, as the opposition leader’s lawyers may demand to review the new revelations and take action over them.
