A confidential Informant is most of the time a criminal, or someone who was set up and is used to entrap or go along w plots to setup individuals by police agencies. They are promised a deal, scrubbing of their criminal record, not getting charged w the crime they got busted on.. or even money. Usually not characters who have a lot of decency and/or morals. Then again some go along just to wash the whole thing away.. decent people who got caputered by an element and went along to survive.. and sometimes it is a payback for a wrong they thought they endured
Whatever their motivation, they are used by Detectives to "sting" people of interest in criminal activities. FBI has been known to be complicit in a lot of shit from Oklahoma City bombing to covering up guilty actions by FBI agents in trying to set off terrorist plots like the Underwear Bomber.
Very dirty group. I would imagine some CO's in their hands could pull off just about any scenerio.
