Melinda French Gates Will No Longer Give Bulk Of Her Wealth To Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Maybe it was a constant reminder of Bill Gates' friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, or maybe she's just made too many promises to too many pool boys - but Melinda French Gates is no longer going to donate the bulk of her wealth to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

French Gates made the change in late 2021 Giving Pledge letter following her divorce from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, however at the time she didn't specify that it would go to the Gates Foundation, according to the Wall Street Journal.

"I think philanthropy is most effective when it prioritizes flexibility over ideology—and why in my work at the foundation and Pivotal Ventures I’ll continue to seek out new partners, ideas, and perspectives," she wrote.

Still, French Gates says she still plans to give most of her fortune away, spreading it among various philanthropic endeavors, according to people familiar with the matter.

She launched Pivotal Ventures in 2015 to focus on issues affecting women and families, including paid-leave policies and an effort to get more women into technology and public office. She has committed to give $1 billion over 10 years to Pivotal to promote gender equality.

"I recognize the absurdity of so much wealth being concentrated in the hands of one person, and I believe the only responsible thing to do with a fortune this size is give it away—as thoughtfully and impactfully as possible," she wrote in her new letter.

The Gates Foundation is one of the world’s largest philanthropies with an endowment topping $50 billion. In July, Mr. Gates and Ms. French Gates said they would commit a further $15 billion to the endowment. It is possible that Ms. French Gates makes additional donations to the foundation even as she gives to other charities, one of the people familiar with the matter said.

The foundation recently added four members to its board of trustees in an effort to boost governance following its co-founders’ divorce. Ms. French Gates and Mr. Gates are the foundation’s co-chairs, though she has agreed to resign in 2023 if either of them decides they can no longer work together. Billionaire Warren Buffett, another major donor, was a trustee until he resigned in June 2021. -WSJ

Bill Gates, meanwhile reiterated in his most recent Giving Pledge letter that most of his wealth will go to the Gates Foundation.

Republican Lawmakers in Wisconsin Propose Legislation to Make It Unconstitutional to Accept Private Money to Help Administer Elections

In April 2021, emails released by Wisconsin Spotlight revealed an outside group, the Chicago-based Center for Tech and Civic Life, and its partner activists handed out more than $8 million in “election safety and security” grants to major Democrat cities of Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Kenosha, and Racine. The bulk of that—$6.3 million—was distributed as part of a contract between the center and each city.

Since that time mayors from at least two of these cities refuse to sit down with Wisconsin Elections Investigator retired Justice Michael Gableman. Last month Gableman filed suit in Waukesha, Wisconsin to jail the Democratic mayors until they sit for a deposition.

Now Wisconsin Republicans are proposing legislation to make it unconstitutional to accept private grant money for administering elections. This is very bad news for Democrats.

FOX11 Online reported:

Wisconsin Republicans are proposing to make it unconstitutional to accept private grant money to help administer elections.

Three Republican state lawmakers on Wednesday proposed the ban as an amendment to the state constitution, which could be put in front of voters to consider as soon as next year.

Democratic Gov. Tony Evers would not be able to stop the amendment, which has to pass two consecutive sessions of the Legislature and a vote of the people.

The amendment addresses a Republican complaint about grant money that came to Wisconsin in 2020 from the Mark Zuckerberg-funded Center for Tech and Civic Life.

Susan Sarandon shares post comparing NYPD funeral turnout to ‘fascism’ in latest example of anti-cop vitriol

Actress Susan Sarandon shared a Twitter post comparing police gathered at the funeral of slain NYPD Detective Jason Rivera to fascists — in the latest example of anti-cop vitriol.

The “Thelma & Louise” star posted an image that showed a tweet by writer and podcaster Danny Haiphong of a photo of the massive turnout of officers in Manhattan last week.

“I’m gonna tell my kids this is what fascism looks like,” the original tweet said.

Sarandon posted an image Tuesday that included an apparent screenshot of the original tweet and a caption that said, “So, if all these cops weren’t needed for CRIME that day, doesn’t that mean they aren’t needed ANY day?”

The hashtag #abolishthepolice was added over the original screenshot. It wasn’t clear if Sarandon made the post herself or was sharing it from elsewhere.

Sarandon, who won the Oscar for Best Actress for the movie “Dead Man Walking,” has been an outspoken critic of police brutality and has taken part in Black Lives Matters protests, including in Brooklyn.

The actress has been a vocal supporter of progressive political policies and backed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in his 2016 presidential run.

The post is the latest in a series of criticism against cops.

A Brooklyn math teacher drew flak for his post on Instagram that appeared to encourage violence against cops — a message he claims was misconstrued — while Manhattan actress Jacqueline Guzman was canned from her job for complaining online about street closures related to Rivera’s funeral.

Mayor Adams dines with ex-Gov. Cuomo at Midtown hotspot

New York’s very sociable new mayor cleared his busy schedule for a lengthy dinner meeting with run-out-of-office ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday night.

Mayor Eric Adams supped with Cuomo — who resigned in July after a damning sexual harassment report from the state Attorney General’s Office that had him facing impeachment — for about two hours at Midtown hotspot Osteria La Baia, sources told Page Six.

A restaurant onlooker said Cuomo was seen entering the eatery on West 52nd Street “in a dark suit and blue tie,” looking “clean-shaven.”

“He worked the room,” the source said, adding that he shook diners’ hands as he headed into a private room.

Another source said Cuomo was “greeted pretty warmly on the way in by people in the restaurant.” Adams entered wearing a suit and no tie, we hear.

Another insider said of the private meeting between the mayor and the ex-pol, “There were some policies, ideas that the governor wanted to discuss with the mayor,” and that the meeting was “set up very recently.”

“Mayor Adams meets with a lot of former government officials to talk about governance, which is particularly important in these unprecedented times. There was nothing political about the conversation, and the mayor stands by his earlier comments that the former governor should have stepped down, as he did,” said Fabien Levy, a City Hall spokesman.

A rep for Cuomo declined to comment.

Cuomo ordered the skate — which is apparently the restaurant’s specialty, a source said. It was not clear what Adams, a former diabetic-turned-vegan, ordered.

The dinner with Cuomo went down around 7 p.m., we hear. Adams had earlier attended a wake for slain NYPD Officer Wilbert Mora at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Adams has been known to frequent the Theater District restaurant: Last November, he had a three-hour meal at Osteria La Baia’s grand opening. He has also been known as a regular at upscale eateries around town including Nello, Fresco By Scotto and private hotspot Zero Bond.
