Henny Penny Earns Overall Business of the Year Award and Community Supporter Award from Dayton Business Journal

Henny Penny, an employee-owned Eaton-based manufacturer of high volume, high quality hot foodservice equipment and solutions, today announced it has been named overall 2021 Business of the Year by the Dayton Business Journal (DBJ). In addition, Henny Penny won the 2021 Community Supporter award and was recognized among the top three finalists for Manufacturing Business of the Year.

“We are humbled and honored to receive the prestigious 2021 Business of the Year Award and so proud of our 860 employee-owners’ dedication, care, and commitment that made this recognition possible,” said Rob Connelly, chairman and CEO of Henny Penny. “This award is especially meaningful as an employee-owned company. It’s a testament to the success we’ve seen in our business, but more importantly highlights who we are and how we choose to operate as a company—which has enabled that success. We focus on strengthening relationships, taking the long view, and taking care of each other, our customers, and the community.”

The Business of the Year awards program, in its 20th year, recognizes top businesses in the Dayton region. During the awards ceremony, which took place November 11 at the Schuster Center in downtown Dayton, honorees and winners are recognized across ten different categories. After category finalists are chosen by guest judges and the DBJ editorial board, the award winners are selected by a panel of outside judges. The individual category winner with the highest total score from the judges is named the overall Business of the Year winner.

Henny Penny has a long yet quiet history of philanthropic giving that reflects its unique and enduring company culture. Rooted in pride of ownership and service, Henny Penny maintains a keen focus on taking care of its employee-owners, customers, and the community. At the heart of Henny Penny’s giving strategy is the Henny Penny Employee Foundation (HPEF). Funded by employee contributions that are matched dollar-for-dollar by the company, the HPEF has raised more than $500,000 since its inception. Funds are awarded to local non-profit organizations to support a variety of community initiatives.

Beyond its Employee Foundation, Henny Penny is an established and respected supporter of community organizations through financial contributions, volunteerism, board service, sponsorship, equipment donations, and more. It has long-standing partnerships in and beyond Preble County with organizations including: Home is The (HIT) Foundation, Preble County Arts Association, Dayton and Preble County Development Coalition, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Dayton Children’s Hospital, University of Dayton, Habitat for Humanity, Sinclair Community College, Boonshoft Children’s Museum, United Way, Dayton History, Dayton Art Institute, and the YMCA.
