I thought it had to do more with people thinking that authority figures ( in this case doctors ) would not abuse the trust that people placed in them. On many of the subjects, one can visibly see they were uncomfortable with proceeding with the instructions given to them by the doctors, yet their trust in the doctors knowing better and the doctors would not abuse that trust gave them the willpower to proceed.
