group insurance broker here, been through these events for 25 years, the hospitals demanded more reimbursement then higher rated hospitals in their area, same thing going on with Northside Hospital and Anthem, NS demanding much higher reimbursement for worse stats of death, infections, etc at the world renown teaching hospital Emory. Don't blame Aetna blame the hospital ownership, they bought up small hospitals renamed them under one name, and demanded more reimbursement due to a strategy to dominate the area. Does not make them the best.
Call Aetna they have special networks that includes TOP hospitals around the country that are known for treatment of different diseases, they will refer your wife to the hospital most capable of treating her.
Take my word for this, I know the system
ps: Insurance companies are NOT more evil than HOSPITALS, and especially the consolidation of medical care after Obama Care
