UFO cloud announces storm

At noon, the Blick editorial team received pictures from readers showing a beautiful cloud in the form of a multi-storey UFO. There are definitely no photo montages, says Melanie Ruosch (33), meteorologist at Meteo Switzerland. It is a so-called foehn fish, in the technical jargon altocumulus lenticularis.

And: The cloud is a harbinger of the storm expected tonight.

Such clouds form when the air above the mountains rises in waves and the water vapor cools and condenses at high altitudes. Central Switzerland is known for this phenomenon, which is based on a western foehn effect. "This is a particularly beautiful specimen," enthuses Melanie Ruosch.

A rough wind will literally blow against us on Sunday. As "Meteo News" writes, a disturbance then moves across northern Switzerland. Storm and rain will increase, especially on Monday night.

By Sunday evening, the wind in the lowlands will reach peaks of up to 100 km/h. The meteorologists even expect speeds of up to 160 km/h on exposed peaks and ridges.

Over the course of the night, the high-level wind turned increasingly to the northwest, and the gusts of wind also hit the Alpine valleys, so that local gusts of just over 120 km/h are also possible here. And this storm is stronger than its predecessors of the current season.
