Head of FBI Atlanta dies of cancer

David LeValley was a first responder during the 9/11 terror attack and spent weeks working on the World Trade Center site

During that time he was exposed to dangerous contaminants and toxins

His family say that he died on Saturday from cancer related to that exposure

His son, Justin LeValley, paid tribute to his father and the 'legacy' he left behind

LeValley, a married father, as a former Marine and Pennsylvania police officer before spending 22 years with the FBI

He joined the Atlanta office in September 2016 as chief

'He died in the line of duty… We will always be grateful for your sacrifice and your leadership,' the FBI tweeted

He wrote a book in 2017 about being gay in the military during the 'don't ask, don't tell' era, before it was repealed in 2011 by President Obama

Before it was repealed, Smith protested the policy with 12 other activists by chaining themselves to the White House fence in November 2010

Smith decided to make his political beliefs public, in part because of how Kanye West has been slammed for his public support of President Donald Trump…….
