NYC Mayor Eric Adams Appears Maskless After Defending Mask Mandates in Schools

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) appeared maskless on Sunday, smiling gleefully with a group of people during a meeting in the city roughly two weeks after he vowed to “follow the science” and keep mask mandates in the city’s public schools after a New York Supreme Court judge struck down Gov. Kathy Hochul’s (D) mandate as “unconstitutional.”

“Earlier today the Belmont BID welcomed @nycmayor, NYC Council Members, @nycsmallbiz and @thenycalliance to Arthur Avenue to speak with our restaurateurs about the outdoor dining program and issues the industry is facing,” Bronx Little Italy posted to Instagram on Sunday. Adams is not wearing a mask in any of the nine photos, which show him in several different environments, both outdoor and indoor.

This is the same Eric Adams who, two weeks ago, called a New York Supreme Court judge’s ruling on the state’s mask mandate “unfortunate” and vowed to keep children masked up.

“I believe it’s unfortunate that it was struck down, and I believe those jurisdictions that are using it as an opportunity to remove mandates are making a big mistake. We need to follow the science, not the fears that is [sic] actually coming with this virus,” he told 1010 WINS, adding that the city of New York was “going to continue our mandates in schools.”

According to the New York Post’s January 25 report, masks were still required in schools “because the Hochul administration is appealing the decision.”

Adams, however, is in good company, as many of his Democrat colleagues have also ignored mask guidance at their own convenience. Democrat Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams made the biggest splash this weekend as she smiled gleefully — maskless — alongside dozens of masked-up elementary school children.

"I've Never Seen A Market Like This": Goldman Sees Shortages Of Everything, "You Name It, We're Out Of It"

It's probably not the endorsement Biden's flailing administration wanted.

In a time when social networks have been swamped with photos of empty shelves from across the nation, Goldman's head commodity strategist and one of the closest-followed analysts on Wall Street, said he’s never seen commodity markets pricing in the shortages they are right now.

“I’ve been doing this 30 years and I’ve never seen markets like this,” Currie told Bloomberg TV in an interview on Monday. “This is a molecule crisis. We’re out of everything, I don’t care if it’s oil, gas, coal, copper, aluminum, you name it we’re out of it.”

In a reversal of the event from April 2020, when WTI oil briefly hit a negative $40 per barrell as speculators paid others to take deliverable oil contracts off their hands as they had no storage for it, futures curves in several key markets are trading in super-backwardation - a structure that indicates traders are paying bumper premiums for immediate supply. The downward sloping shape in prices is generally taken to mean commodities are severely undersupplied.

The shortage of, well, everything has translated into record price of virtually all commodities: the Bloomberg Commodity Spot Index, which tracks 23 energy, metals and crop futures, has touched a record this year. That has been driven in part by surging oil prices, which have hit their highest level since 2014 and earlier today Brent rose as high as $94, assuring even more pain at the pump.

BLM chapter founder sentenced to prison for voter fraud; NAACP laments 'two criminal justice systems in America'

Pamela Moses, an activist who founded the Black Lives Matter chapter in Memphis, was sentenced to prison last week after she was found guilty of voter fraud.

What are the details?

Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich announced last Monday that Moses was sentenced to six years and one day in prison after being convicted last November of illegally registering to vote in Tennessee.

In 2015, Moses pleaded guilty to multiple felonies — tampering with evidence and forgery — and a host of misdemeanors: perjury, stalking, theft under $500, and escape. She was sentenced to seven years' probation for her crimes, but more significantly, Moses was "permanently deemed ineligible to register and vote in Tennessee" because of the tampering with evidence conviction, Weirich explained.

But in September 2019, Moses filed a voter registration application with the Shelby County Election Commission. At the time, she was running for mayor of Memphis, but was still on probation. By filing the application to vote and an accompanying certificate of restoration, Moses was "falsely asserting that her sentence had expired and that she was eligible to register to vote," according to Weirich.

Moses has maintained her innocence, but Criminal Court Judge W. Mark Ward did not buy it.

"You tricked the probation department into giving you documents saying you were off probation," Ward told Moses last week.

Despite Moses only admitting to having registered to vote but maintaining that she never actually voted, Ward condemned Moses for having "voted six times as a convicted felon," the Washington Post noted.

What was the reaction?

The NAACP's Legal Defense Fund said the case demonstrates how "there are two criminal justice systems in America," characterizing Moses' case as a "voting error."
