Ohio: Butler County auditor indicted on public corruption charges

Auditor Roger Reynolds, 52, has been indicted by a grand jury on one count of bribery, two counts of unlawful interest in a public contract, one count of unlawful use of authority, one count of conflict of interest.

The Attorney General's Office will be transmitting a copy of the indictment to the Ohio Supreme Court under Ohio Revised Code 3.16, which authorizes the Court to initiate suspension proceedings against a public official who has been charged with a felony in a state or federal court when the felony relates to the performance of the official's duties.

Auditor Roger Reynolds, a Republican who was first appointed in 2008 and then reelected several times. is facing three felony charges and two misdemeanor charges for allegedly using his position for personal gain.

Enquirer media partner Fox19 reported in August that Reynolds sought more than $1 million in public money for improvements to Hamilton Mason Road. Reynolds's parents own property along the road.

Fox19 also reported that Reynolds tried to buy property along the road from 87-year-old landowner Gerald Parks, who said Reynolds told him the property would be landlocked if he did not sell it for below market value.

Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds says he understands election challenge by Treasurer Nancy Nix but said his legal troubles won't force him out of office.

Reynolds is under a criminal investigation into whether he has done anything wrong in trying to get $1 million in public funds for mandated road improvements so his father's West Chester Twp. property can be developed into a senior living community.
