If I was Rome, at war with the Jews, I'd end their religion by telling them their messiah had arrived and there time was up, and now they should worship and pay taxes to the Emporer of Rome. The Jewish Messiah would obviously have to be a Jew. (Israelite, Aramaic speaker, Hebrew, whatever…)
