>Rumors are they put out a nationwide search for cops with CDLs.

I don't think that for moving rigs just to clear streets anyone would worry about a CDL.

Seems to me it may be more like trying to get ahead of a nationwide trucker strike. LE would probably need a CDL to drive. All hell would break loose if a non-CDL driver caused a fatal accident. Military probably wouldn't need CDLs, but there is the real issue of the military not wanting to, or not being able to step in.

Well, you need a different license to drive vehicles over a certain size or weight. New written and on the road test. Nothing to do with unions.

My point was that if the licensed big rig truckers shut down, and the government just tried to fill the gap with unlicensed for a big rig drivers, there would be a serious problem if that unlicensed driver caused a fatal accident.

A driver shortage just happened in the UK where the lockdowns created a shortage of drivers. Student drivers couldn't get on the road to train. UK went with an expedited training program to try to fill the gap. You just can't put untrained people in the big rigs.

Anyway, rumor or not, there has to be the concern for TPTB that a trucker strike occurs. From where do you draw replacement drivers? I think if the CA government leans on the protestors too heavily they run the risk of the truckers nationwide shutting down in solidarity. That's the leverage the protestors have and the government need to neutralize that, somehow.
