In my own humble explanation it's because they belong to a cult. Every cult I've ever looked into have this mentality. They relinquish their true self and operate on the belief that their "master" is all powerful.
Yeah, my son goes ballistic and the scary part is that he's intelligent. California University system got to him. We haven't spoken about politics for months.
