New Soon to Be Billionaire Owner of CNN Stuns Media With Startling Admission, Network Has No Actual Journalists

CNN’s soon to be new owner just made a startling admission, one that has been obviously apparent to us and many others for some time, that the so called news network has no actual journalists.

Via Newsmax:

Liberal CNN needs “actual journalists,” billionaire media mogul John Malone told CNBC in an interview in which he explained there is a place for the news channel in the proposed $43 billion combination of WarnerMedia and Discovery into a new entity Warner Bros. Discovery.

“I would like to see CNN evolve back to the kind of journalism that it started with, and actually have journalists, which would be unique and refreshing,” said Malone, who is longtime chairman of Liberty Media, which is a major shareholder in Discovery and will be the controlling partner of the new media combination.

“I do believe good journalism could have a role in this future portfolio that Discovery-TimeWarner’s going to represent,” he said.

CNN will be the key news property in the merged company, one that will be dominated by entertainment programming. There had been rumors that CNN might be spun off or sold, but Malone indicated that’s not likely.

He described such a move as “a coward’s way out would be to sell [CNN] or spin it off and then sell it.”

But Malone has cause to worry about the left-wing network.

CNN’s ratings have collapsed over 50% in the past year and may be suffering from a credibility gap with viewers.

Looks like the soon to be new owners are about to make some changes that many at the so called new network are not going to like at all.

Lets hope CNN returns to its roots and actually does some honest reporting instead of the garbage they currently push as news.

Of course the odds of a left-wing network changing it’s stripes and reporting the truth is in reality a pipe-dream.

Better to fire everyone at the network and start from scratch.

In Jerusalem, Lindsey Graham Says Iran More of a Danger Than Russia and China

The senator compared Iran to Nazi Germany

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) railed against Iran while in Jerusalem on Monday. He warned the Iranians were more dangerous than Russia and China and compared the Islamic Republic to Nazi Germany.

“Russia and China are rational actors, even though their behavior is thuggish,” Graham said, according to The Jerusalem Post. “Iran is a theocracy motivated by religion that compels them to purify their faith and have the world submit. The Nazis wanted a master race, and the Iranians want a master religion. People like that cannot be ignored.”

Graham suggested if Iran acquires a nuclear weapon, it could start an arms race in the region, ignoring the fact that Israel has a secret nuclear program. He argued that Israel wouldn’t be able to live with a nuclear Iran.

“I guarantee you the Jewish people can’t live that way. One Holocaust was enough. There will be war. Why can’t Iran have nuclear weapons? Because Israelis say, ‘Never again,'” he said.

Graham’s unhinged comments come as the US and Iran appear to be close to reaching an agreement in Vienna to revive the Iran nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA. Even though the JCPOA puts strict limits on Iran’s civilian nuclear program and makes it subject to the most stringent inspections in the world, Graham is against a revival of the deal.

While in Israel, Graham met with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, and Defense Minister Benny Gantz. Graham said he raised the idea of a mutual defense treaty with Israel to send a message to the world that the “destruction of the Jewish state means war with the United States.”

Gantz opposed the idea of a mutual defense treaty with the US when it was discussed during the Trump administration, warning it could endanger Israel’s freedom to launch attacks in the region. Graham said that he “would never suggest that any defense agreement would restrict Israel’s ability to act on their own.”

Jared Kushner has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for a second year running for his work on normalising relations between Israel and Arab countries. The son-in-law of former US President Donald told the Jerusalem Post that thanks for this must go to the "visionary leaders and efforts of millions of Israelis and Arabs" through whom the so-called "Abraham Accords continue to strengthen, making the Middle East — and the world — a safer, more prosperous place."

US Congressman and Republican candidate for governor of New York Lee Zeldin nominated both Kushner and the former White House adviser's deputy, Avi Berkowitz, said the New York Post.

"The Abraham Accords, signed in 2020, represent the most significant diplomatic breakthrough between Israel and Arab nations in decades," wrote Zeldin in his nomination. "Against the background of a centuries-old conflict and the Covid-19 pandemic, rising tensions and Iran's growing influence, Kushner and Berkowitz successfully brought together regional leaders, and forged regional alliances better capable of countering Iran's malign influence."

In September 2020, the UAE and Israel signed a US-sponsored deal to normalise relations. Since then, the two countries have signed dozens of bilateral agreements in various fields, including investment, banking services and tourism.

Three other Arab states – Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan – joined the UAE in the controversial move that came to be known as the Abraham Accords.

Last year, prominent American lawyer Alan Dershowitz, one of the most vocal supporters of the occupation state of Israel, also nominated Kushner and Berkowitz for the peace prize.

Putin says Russia not interested in war, raising hopes for diplomatic breakthrough

Moscow calls reports of imminent invasion failed ‘Western war propaganda,’ says it wants to talk security arrangements with NATO, but fears of war remain high

MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Moscow was ready for talks with the US and NATO on limits for missile deployments and military transparency, in a new sign of easing East-West tensions.

“We are ready to work further together. We are ready to go down the negotiations track,” Putin told a press conference on Tuesday.

Putin said that “of course” Russia does not want war. But it “cannot turn a blind eye” to how Washington and NATO “freely interpret” the principle of the indivisibility of security — that no country should strengthen its security at the expense of others.

The statement came after Russia announced it was pulling back some troops from exercises that have raised fears of a potential invasion of Ukraine.

Speaking after talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Putin said the US and NATO had rejected Moscow’s demand to keep Ukraine and other ex-Soviet nations out of NATO, halt weapons deployments near Russian borders and roll back alliance forces from Eastern Europe.

Scholz and Putin agreed to discuss a range of security measures that Russia had previously proposed.

Scholz said Tuesday that he agreed with Russia’s assessment that there was still a chance to avert war over Ukraine through diplomatic negotiations.

“I expressly agree that the diplomatic options are far from exhausted,” he said.

Putin said that Russia is ready to engage in talks on limits on the deployment of intermediate range missiles in Europe, transparency of drills and other confidence-building measures but emphasized the need for the West to heed Russia’s main demands.

Russia has denied any plans to invade Ukraine.

Lawyer charged in Durham probe accuses prosecutors of seeking to 'inflame media coverage'

A lawyer who was indicted in September as part of special counsel John Durham's long-running investigation into the FBI's probe of the 2016 Trump campaign accused Durham of using the case to fuel right-wing media narratives claiming political persecution of former President Trump.

Lawyers for Michael Sussman, an attorney facing a single charge of making a false statement to the FBI, responded late Monday night to Durham's surprise allegations last week that Sussman's clients had organized a conspiracy to spy on the Trump White House. In a court filing, Sussman's lawyers said the information Durham's office submitted to the court was misleading and unnecessary, and could only be intended to stir up media and jury bias against their client.

"Given the Special Counsel’s pattern of including unnecessary prejudicial material in public filings, there can be no doubt that the superfluous 'Factual Background' in the Special Counsel’s motion is intended to further politicize this case, inflame media coverage, and taint the jury pool," they wrote in their brief Monday night.

The defense lawyers asked a federal judge to strike the portion of Durham's Friday brief from the court record, a procedural move to rid the record of filings that are irrelevant or inappropriate.

Durham's prosecutors allege Sussmann lied when he told the FBI general counsel during a 2016 meeting that he was not representing any client when he presented findings from cybersecurity researchers that suggested links between the Trump Organization and a Russian bank. The special counsel's office has accused Sussmann of hiding that he was working for the Clinton campaign when he met with the FBI.

Sussmann has pleaded not guilty and denied any wrongdoing.

Durham's court filing Friday that contained the allegations stirred up a conservative media frenzy.

Ostensibly raising issues about conflicts of interest for Sussmann's defense counsel, the brief digressed into details that had not been raised in the indictment.

Attorneys with the special counsel's office wrote that Rodney Joffe, a cybersecurity consultant referred to in court filings as "Tech Executive-1," exploited nonpublic White House data from his former company's pending government contract in order to find damning information about Trump.

"Tech Executive-1’s employer, Internet Company-1, had come to access and maintain dedicated servers for the EOP as part of a sensitive arrangement whereby it provided DNS resolution services to the EOP," the brief reads, using an acronym to refer to the White House's Executive Office of the President.

Automakers Resume Production After Canada Bridge Protest Ends

Several car factories that saw operations disrupted last week after protests in Canada blocked a key border crossing with the United States resumed activities on Monday, but some issues lingered.

Trucker-led demonstrations against Canada's Covid-19 restrictions disrupted traffic on the Ambassador Bridge for seven days, but authorities on Sunday cleared out the protestors.

The bridge, which connects Windsor, Canada with Detroit on the American side, is a key route for automakers to ship parts and vehicles back and forth across the border during the manufacturing process.

General Motors, which had to cut shifts at some plants last week amid a shortage of materials, said work resumed as normal on Monday.

"No issues to report," a company spokesperson told AFP.

Stellantis, which also shortened several shifts in Canadian and US plants due to the bridge closure, resumed normal operations, a spokesperson said.

The company did not provide an estimate of projected losses due to the disruptions but said it "will look to make up that production in the coming months."

"We are working with our carriers to get parts into the plants as quickly as possible to mitigate any further disruptions," the spokesperson said.

Toyota, which likewise felt the impact last week at its Canadian factories as well as three sites in the US states of Kentucky, West Virginia and Alabama, said operations have not yet returned to normal.

"All three lines at our plants in Canada are not running still and only certain lines are running at our other three US impacted plants," a spokesperson said.

"We're expecting it to improve each day this week as we get all routes back to normal."

Honda said operations on the US side of the border were running.

The company on Friday temporarily suspended one production line at its Alliston plant on the Canadian side, and on Monday had only one line working, although that was "due to previously scheduled downtime unrelated to the border issue."

45 arrests in crackdown on Albanian-speaking criminals flooding Europe with cocaine

Support to actions across Europe against large-scale importers and wholesalers of drugs from Latin America

An international operation involving judicial and law enforcement authorities in seven countries has resulted in the takedown of one of Europe’s most active Albanian-speaking cocaine trafficking networks in Europe. Today, Eurojust and Europol supported a series of actions carried out in Belgium and Spain, during which over 80 places were searched and 45 suspects arrested. These include a number of high-value targets, investigated in multiple high-profile cases in different jurisdictions.

During the Action Day, over 600 law enforcement officers in close cooperation with prosecutors and investigative officers carried out raids against the members of this network in Spain and Belgium. A number of parallel actions also took place in Croatia, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.

Eurojust set up a coordination centre to enable rapid cooperation between the judicial authorities involved. Europol organised the intensive exchange of information and evidence needed to prepare for the final phase of the investigation. Two experts were deployed to facilitate the transnational police operations, using mobile offices on the spot.

Today’s operation, coordinated at the international level by Europol and Eurojust, was the culmination of many months of meticulous planning between law enforcement and judicial authorities in preparation for the action.

A joint investigation team (JIT) was set up between Belgium and Spain last year, with active assistance of Eurojust and Europol. Investigations in Spain started in 2018, with the arrest of a high-ranking member of the organised crime group, who is currently in pre-trial detention. In addition, an Operation Taskforce (OTF) was set up at Europol to pool investigative resources and expertise and develop the investigation internationally.

In Belgium, investigations commenced following the seizure in September 2020 of drugs and large quantities of chemicals, used to transform and preserve cocaine for trading purposes. Large quantities of cocaine seized during various searches all over Europe over the last years are to be linked to the suspects.

This high-level criminal network had set up a string of enterprises in various countries to launder the profits, including Croatia and Spain, often using strawmen. Its members travelled regularly to Dubai, Mexico and Colombia to arrange their illegal business and used encrypted communication tools to coordinate activities.

Novak Djokovic says he’s prepared to put career on hold rather than take COVID jab

'That is the price that I'm willing to pay,' the tennis ace said.

“For me that is essential, it’s really the principle of understanding what is right and what is wrong for you,” the sportsman stated, adding that “based on all the information that I got, I decided not to take the vaccine.”

The world number one recognized that his decision to forego the jab, for whatever reason, would bring opposition and difficulties in progressing his career, but said he was not deterred by this.

“I understand the consequences of my decision,” he said, noting that one of those consequences “was not going to Australia.”

The Serbian national said he “was prepared not to go” to the Australian Open, adding that he will likely face exclusion from many other major tournaments, to the detriment of his career record. “That is the price I am willing to pay.”

Asked if he is willing to give up his chance to hold the most coveted records in tennis history and become the greatest player “statistically” to have played the game professionally, Djokovic simply responded: “Yes.”

“The principles of decision-making on my own body are more important than any title,” he defended.

Djokovic was ejected from Australia last month after the Australian Minster for Immigration Alex Hawke deigned that the tennis ace’s “ongoing presence in Australia may lead to an increase in anti-vaccination sentiment generated in the Australian community, potentially leading to an increase in civil unrest of the kind previously experienced in Australia with rallies and protests which may themselves be a source of community transmission.”

Ottawa Police Chief Resigns Amid Freedom Convoy Protest

Canada – Ottawa police chief Peter Sloly resigned on Tuesday, according to Canadian outlet CBC.

Peter Sloly has resigned as Ottawa’s police chief and will publicly announce his resignation after the Ottawa Police Services Board meeting today, sources tell CBC News.

The former chief has been criticized over his handling of a truck convoy protest that has caused major disruptions to Ottawa’s downtown core.

Sloly’s resignation comes as sources tell CBC News he’s been accused of bullying and volatile behaviour that has damaged relations with senior leadership and compromised the force’s ability to cope with the truck protest.

Multiple sources have told CBC News that Sloly allegedly belittled and berated senior Ottawa Police Service officers in front of their colleagues, and has failed to put forward a solid operations plan to end the crisis.

Sources say he allegedly has come into conflict with members of the OPP and RCMP tasked with assisting the city’s law enforcement efforts during the crisis.

Recall, Peter Sloly vowed to prosecute the truck drivers participating in the peaceful freedom convoy protest.

== Billions Go from US Taxpayers -NIH -> US Universities -> Scientists in China -> Chinese Military==

Retired Colonel Lawrence Sellin, Ph.D., was on The Joe Hoft Show at Real Talk 93.3 yesterday and he dropped some bombs on the origins of COVID and China’s and the US’s involvement.

Lawrence Sellin, Ph.D., shared an article at The Gateway Pundit yesterday where he asked about Johns Hopkins University’s actions related to COVID and the CCP. Here is his article.

Sellin then joined Joe Hoft at Real Talk 93.3 and discussed the origins of COVID and this piece in particular. Here are some comments from that discussion:

[COVID] was certainly man-made in a laboratory in China. There’s no question about it and in my opinion, it was part of China’s biowarfare program. You only need to look at the structure of the virus itself because it has a number of unusual features that are not found any bat coronavirus in which COVID-19 could have evolved.

Dr. Anthony Fauci…funded the EcoHealth Alliance which Peter Daszak runs in New York City. But then the money was funnelled to the Wuhan Institute of Virology…What’s been happening is billions of dollars in fact of US tax payer money has gone through the Institute of Health to universities in the US which in turn have collaborated with scientists inside China, including scientists with the People’s Liberation Army.

It’s almost as if Johns Hopkins was working with the Chinese Communist Party in scaring us.

US accuses Zero Hedge of spreading Russian propaganda. Website fires back at 'hit piece.'

U.S. intelligence officials have accused the libertarian-leaning financial website Zero Hedge of spreading Russian propaganda, though the website vigorously denies the accusation.

Anonymous officials who spoke with the Associated Press on Tuesday alleged that Zero Hedge, which has 1.2 million readers, published articles created by Moscow-controlled media. The officials pointed to multiple articles that criticized U.S. warnings about a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Some of those articles were authored by people affiliated with the Strategic Culture Foundation, a group sanctioned by the Biden administration last year for allegedly participating in Russian interference in the 2020 U.S. election, according to the AP. The officials said the foundation's leadership takes direction from the SVR, the Russian foreign intelligence service.

Recent Zero Hedge articles cited by the AP include the headlines: “NATO Sliding Towards War Against Russia In Ukraine,” “Americans Need A Conspiracy Theory They Can All Agree On,” and “Theater Of Absurd… Pentagon Demands Russia Explain Troops On Russian Soil.”

In a written response published Tuesday, Zero Hedge called the AP article a "hit piece" and said it has "been singled out for pursuing non-establishment groupthink."

"Well, now we've done it — we've angered the CIA, and for what? For publishing views that challenge the conventional narrative," Zero Hedge wrote.

The post noted that there is "no actual accusation that Zero Hedge works directly with anyone tied to Russia or its intelligence apparatus." The officials quoted by the AP did not say whether they believed Zero Hedge knew of any alleged links to spy agencies and they did not allege a direct link between the website and Russia.

Zero Hedge told the AP it seeks to “publish a wide spectrum of views that cover both sides of a given story.”

"[T]his website has never worked, collaborated or cooperated with Russia, nor are there any links to spy (or any other) agencies," Zero Hedge emphasized in its response.

Zero Hedge said that the Strategic Culture Foundation "periodically guest posts on its website along with hundreds of other sources of alternative information." The website added that one of the main writers for the foundation, Alastair Crooke, is "a former high ranking MI6 figure and UK diplomat, i.e., a former British spook."

"Perhaps he is now a double agent working for Putin after spending decades spying for the UK?” Zero Hedge wrote.

Zero Hedge told the AP the Strategic Culture Foundation is "one of our hundreds of contributors — unlike Mainstream Media, we try to publish a wide spectrum of views that cover both sides of a given story."

The intelligence officials said three other websites have ties to the FSB, Russia's federal security service.

“These sites enable the Russian government to secure support among the Russian and Ukrainian populations,” one official said. “This is the primary vector for how the Russian government will bolster support domestically for an invasion into Ukraine.”

Chinese-state media attacks Scott Morrison as a 'clown' in insulting article mocking Australia with new cartoon - and Anthony Albanese doesn't get off lightly either

Former Australian diplomat ridiculed Australian leaders in a Chinese column

Bruce Haigh, 76, continued The Global Times' attacks on PM Scott Morrison

He predicted Anthony Albanese to win the election but wasn't complimentary

A former Australian diplomat writing for a Chinese government-controlled tabloid has attacked Scott Morrison and said Anthony Albanese 'shines' in comparison.

Writing for the Global Times, which has consistently bashed Australia in recent editorials, Bruce Haigh unloaded on the Prime Minister in an extraordinary column that also damned Anthony Albanese with faint praise.

The article's main point appeared to be that Australia's leadership was too 'weak' to resist American political pressure and 'reset' its worsening relationship with China.

The Global Times, widely understood to be a mouthpiece for the ruling Chinese Communist Party, has run a series of articles in recent years mocking, threatening and raging at Australia and Mr Morrison.

It consistently berates the Prime Minister as a 'lackey' for the United States and slammed him over the recent AUKUS deal to build nuclear Australian submarines in the US.

One of its favoured strategies is using inflammatory, anti-Australian cartoons and images in its latest broadside, with the column including what looked like a sleeping Kangaroo in a rowing boat being towed by an American ship.

Mr Haigh described Albanese as 'likely to win the election' but only because Morrison's Liberal-National coalition is 'imploding through corruption' and mismanagement of the pandemic, The Global Times reported.

Russia And China Ink Huge Oil Deals As Ukraine Tensions Soar

Moscow’s state-owned oil giant, Rosneft, signed a US$80 billion 10-year deal to supply the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) with 100 million metric tonnes of oil.

This increase in crude oil delivery volumes and mechanisms to China is part of a broad-based strategy to circumvent to as great a degree as possible the effects of international sanctions against Russia.

This multi-level cooperation strategy between Russia and China provides financing into Russia from China, regardless of possible sanctions from the U.S. and its allies.

At around the same time as Russian President, Vladimir Putin, had his first in-person meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, for nearly two years – at the opening of the Winter Olympics ceremony in Beijing – and reiterated that there is ‘no limit’ to how far Russian and Chinese friendship may go, a slew of huge new cooperation deals in the oil and gas sectors and beyond were being announced by state news agencies on both sides. As analyzed in-depth in my new book on the global oil markets, the two countries have been working in an increasingly coordinated manner in the past few years in multiple operational spaces, all towards the central aim of weakening the dominant global power position of the U.S., and then supplanting it in this role. Nowhere has this coordinated strategy been more obvious in oil and gas sector terms than in the Middle East, especially since the U.S.’s unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran in May 2018. Its subsequent withdrawal from Afghanistan in September 2021, and then the ‘end of combat mission’ in Iraq in December 2021, has reinforced the Russia-China axis’s confidence that achieving their aim will only be a matter of time. Consequently, those countries in the Middle East who seek to portray themselves as neither on one side or another – and, bizarrely, chose to excuse how China is likely to deal with their own Muslim cultures in their recent attempt to seal a China-GCC Free Trade Agreement - either do not realize that the current power struggle between the U.S. and its allies, and China-Russia and its allies, is a zero-sum game, or are jejune at best.

The latest specific series of oil and gas deals announced between Russia and China are wide-ranging and highly significant for the global oil and gas markets and build on the relentless roll-out of project after project in the Middle East in recent years, especially by both countries in Iran and Iraq. These two Middle Eastern countries offer a much bigger prize in terms of reserves, capacity, spare capacity, and the likelihood of new field discoveries in both the oil and gas sectors than Saudi Arabia. China has focused recently on signing multiple deals with Iraq, some for headline-grabbing field developments but many more employing the more under-the-radar model of individual ‘contract-only’ awards to Chinese companies that few people have ever heard of, but all fully State-backed and State-funded (every single company in China functions as part of the State apparatus).

Beijing can afford to focus on Iraq now, given that it already regards Iran – via its all-embracing 25-year deal with Tehran – as “a de facto client state”, a senior oil and gas industry figure who works closely with Iran’s Petroleum Ministry exclusively told OilPrice.com last week. Aiming to utilize the political ambiguity increasingly shown by several Middle Eastern states who previously could have unequivocally been said to have been U.S. allies, China has also sought to engineer ‘Hotel California’-type deals with them – ‘You can check out any time you like/But you can never leave’ - through funding associated with its multi-generational power-grab project, ‘One Belt, One Road’. Russia, in the meantime, is more focused currently on Iran – a policy focus agreed with China, according to the Iran source - continuing to work alongside it in Syria, and on several oil and gas field developments.

Sussmann: Durham filing on alleged Trump server tampering 'false allegations' fueling 'conspiracy'

Sussmann has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly failing to disclose to the FBI he worked for 2016 Clinton campaign while pushing Russiagate.

Former Hillary Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann late Monday filed a legal response to Special Counsel John Durham's recent court filing alleging Sussmann was part of an illegal effort to discredit the 2016 Trump campaign, claiming the prosecution filing includes "false allegations" and tries to "taint the jury pool" for his upcoming trial.

Durham's filing last week alleges Sussmann and other campaign lawyers paid a technology company to "mine" servers belonging to Trump Tower and the Trump White House to create an "inference" of Russia collusion in 2016-17, hoping to prod federal agencies to investigate.

In September 2021, a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging Sussmann with making a false statement to the FBI in fall 2016 regarding alleged communications between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank.

The indictment was in connection to Sussmann having been questioned by the FBI prior to the 2016 election as to whether he was working for a client when he brought allegations to the bureau about Trump's links to the financial institution.

Durham was appointed Justice Department special counsel by Trump Attorney General William Barr to investigate false allegations about the Russia collusion.

He has alleged that beyond failing to disclose his connection to the campaign during the questioning Sussmann also "repeatedly" billed the campaign for his work on the Russian bank allegations.

Sussmann, who was a partner at the time for Washington, D.C., law firm Perkins Coie, has denied the allegation.

In his most recent filing, Durham argues that prior to the FBI's questioning, Sussmann "had assembled and conveyed the allegations to the bureau on behalf of at least two specific clients including the campaign and a technology executive at a U.S.-based internet company.

Sussmann, also a former federal prosecutor and Democratic National Committee lawyer, and his attorneys at the firm Latham & Watkins, in their five-page response Monday to Durham's "conflict of interest" allegation last week claim the filing "unnecessarily includes prejudicial – and false – allegations that are irrelevant to his motion and to the charged offense."

They also argue that at least some of the information was “plainly intended to politicize this case, inflame media cover, and taint the jury pool.”

They also write: "Sadly, the special counsel seems to be succeeding in his effort to instigate unfair and prejudicial media coverage of Mr. Sussmann's case. Indeed, since the Motion was filed, numerous outlets published stories suggesting that the special counsel's latest filing revealed a vast conspiracy involving Mr. Sussmann and the Clinton Campaign."

YouTube CEO wants governments pass laws to “have more control over online speech”

Calling for speech laws.

Susan Wojcicki, the CEO of YouTube, has acknowledged that the platform’s policy of censoring legal content that it deems to be “harmful” is controversial and urged governments to step in and pass stronger speech laws.

Wojcicki made the comments in an interview with the Hamburg-based independent broadcaster TIDETVhamburg where she was asked about how the platform navigates the “minefield” or complying with national laws while also keeping advertisers happy and users interested.

“We work around the globe, and you’re right, certainly there are many different laws and many different jurisdictions, and we…enforce the laws of the various jurisdictions around speech or what’s considered safe or not safe,” Wojcicki said.

She added that there’s been little controversy when YouTube enforces these laws. Instead, the controversy arises when YouTube decides to censor speech that it deems to be “harmful” but “not illegal,” particularly in relation to COVID.

“What has been the controversial part is when there is content that would be deemed as harmful but yet is not illegal,” Wojcicki said. “An example of that, for example, would be COVID. I’m not aware of there being laws by governments saying around COVID in terms of not being able to debate the efficacy of masks or where the virus came from or the right treatment or proposal but yet there was a lot of pressure and concern about us distributing misinformation that went against what was the standard and accepted medical knowledge. And so this category of harmful but…legal has been, I think, where most of the discussion has been.”

Despite admitting that the way YouTube censors legal content is controversial, Wojcicki pushed for stronger speech laws that would accommodate this censorship.

“Our recommendation, if governments want to have more control over online speech is to pass laws to have that be very cleanly and clearly defined so that we can implement it,” Wojcicki said.
