Russia has mocked claims made by Western media outlets that an “invasion” of Ukraine will begin at 3am on February 16, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying that Ukrainians who believe such things are welcome to stay up.

Leaked data from Canadian convoy protest fundraiser reveals hundreds of Australian donors

A leaked database of donations made to Canadian truckers protesting against vaccine mandates has listed hundreds of Australians among the convoy's supporters.

The Canadian protest has caused global consternation after it brought Ottawa to a standstill and inspired similar events in New Zealand and Australia.

The Canadian government has expressed particular concern about the role of overseas fundraising in sustaining the convoy.

A fundraiser on the self-styled Christian crowdfunding website GiveSendGo raised more than $US8 million for the Canadian protesters, with $US33,734 USD ($47,319) of this coming from donors who are listed as being in Australia.

On Monday, the GiveSendGo website was taken over by anonymous hackers and a spreadsheet was leaked containing the details of almost 93,000 donations.

The dataset lists individual names, email addresses, donation amounts and postcodes as well as messages of support for the Canadian convoy, such as: "Fighting with you all the way from Australia" and "Sending full support from our family here in Australia".

The ABC contacted several Australians on the list who confirmed they had made payment to the fundraising campaign. On Wednesday Australian time, GiveSendGo confirmed on Twitter that its website had been breached.

News outlets in the United States and Canada have also confirmed local donors.

The ABC confirmed the highest single donor on the Australian list to be a Melbourne woman who contributed $US1,300 ($1,817).

The woman, who did not wish to be identified, said she had family and friends who had lost their jobs due to vaccine mandates.

She said when she saw what was happening in Canada, she felt compelled to act.

"I haven't got much, but I wanted to donate as much as I could on principle," she told the ABC.

"I went to the Canberra protests over the weekend and do you know how exhausting it is to drive for eight hours?

GOP senators call on Justice Department to release Crossfire Hurricane records

The senators are concerned that improper redactions may be made by the DOJ.

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) on Tuesday sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland calling on the Justice Department to declassify the Crossfire Hurricane records that President Donald Trump ordered to be released while he was in office.

Grassley, ranking Judiciary Committee member, and Johnson, ranking Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations member, said that the Department of Justice's "delayed transparency has interfered with congressional investigators’ review of what should already be public records."

Crossfire Hurricane is the name given to the FBI's investigation of the Trump 2016 campaign and possible ties to Russia. Trump ordered the declassification of any documents related to the probe on his last full day as president.

Sen. Johnson and Sen. Grassley in October 2021 demanded answers from the DOJ about the records' release. Since then, "the Justice Department has not only failed to declassify a single page, the Department has failed to identify for Congress records that it knows with certainty to be covered by the declassification directive," the duo wrote to Garland.

The senators voiced concern that the DOJ has yet to identify records "subject to the declassification directive" or confirm that the records have not already been reviewed by congressional staff. They also stressed that the department must ensure that the records will not be improperly redacted.

"[O]ur staff should not have to spend potentially multiple days and countless hours in the Department’s classified facility only to play a guessing game with the Department about what document may or may not be covered by the declassification directive and potentially review records that have already been produced to Congress," the senators wrote.

A previous letter from the DOJ to Grassley and Johnson "failed to provide information" about department actions taken to decide which records should be declassified, among other things, they said.

"Our oversight efforts are based on our unyielding belief that the American people deserve to know the complete truth about the Crossfire Hurricane investigation," Johnson and Grassley told Garland.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) last year released transcripts of interviews from the Senate Judiciary Committee's Crossfire Hurricane investigation. He criticized the FBI's probe as "a massive system failure by senior leadership."

Following the emergence of the video, obtained by The Australian, the board of Lark Distilling called an emergency meeting to launch an investigation.

On Wednesday, Lark said Mr Bainbridge had “tendered his resignation effective immediately to enable him to manage a personal matter … brought to the attention of the board”.

In the video, Mr Bainbridge appears to have filmed himself smoking methamphetamine while engaged in a sex act.

The sexually explicit video filmed by Mr Bainbridge runs for almost a minute and shows him fondling himself while wearing black underwear.

“Let’s get fing high together baby. I’d smoke meth and just blow it all over your c babe,” he appears to say while lighting up a methamphetamine pipe.

He is shown to be inhaling from the pipe and blowing it into the phone screen and ending the video saying “I’m so high, I’m so f … ing horny.”

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Geoff Bainbridge paid nearly $12,000 to extortionists in the hope that the video footage of him smoking ice six years ago would never become public.

Top Republicans are now questioning whether the Biden official with a heavy hand in US foreign policy knowingly promoted faulty information while hiding his boss’s link to it. The timing of the matter raises particular concerns about Sullivan’s role in the US response to the rapidly worsening crisis between Russia and Ukraine.

Ukraine Explains Zelensky, a Comedian, Was Mocking Media with Russian Invasion Speech

The office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was forced to clarify on Monday night that his announcement declaring Wednesday a public holiday because of an alleged Russian invasion was intended as “irony” and mockery of anonymous media reports, not a confirmation that Russia will invade on Wednesday.

Zelensky issued a nationally televised speech on Monday declaring Wednesday a Ukrainian “Day of Unity,” urging citizens to decorate their streets in the national colors, blue and yellow, wear patriotic clothing, and get together to sing the national anthem. A presidential decree declaring Wednesday a holiday also included a pay raise for the Ukrainian armed forces and the creation of a new media platform to combat misinformation coming from American and other Western corporate media about any alleged invasion.

“We are told that February 16 will be the day of the attack. We will make it the Day of Unity,” Zelensky said in the address, according to the official English-language translation from the Ukrainian government. “The relevant decree has already been signed. On this day, we will hoist national flags, put on blue and yellow ribbons and show the world our unity.”

“Today is not just Valentine’s Day. It is the day of those in love with Ukraine. We believe in our own strength and continue to build our future together. Because we are united by love for Ukraine, united and unique,” the president said. “And love will win. Yes, now you may think it’s darkness all around. But tomorrow the sun will rise again over our peaceful sky.”

Elsewhere in the remarks, Zelensky derided international media for attempting to sow panic with repeated reports predicting an invasion.

“We are being intimidated by the great war and the date of the military invasion is being set again. This is not the first time,” Zelensky said, accusing an unspecified “they” of attempting to “spread panic among citizens and investors through the media” and “deprive us of the right to determine our own foreign policy course.”

To Ukrainian journalists specifically, Zelensky advised, “work for Ukraine, not for those who fled. The fate of the country today depends on your honest position.”

Some American media outlets reported Zelensky’s speech as an original source for the claim that Russia will invade on Wednesday and did not make any indications in their reporting that Zelensky was in any way dismissive or sarcastic about the date.
