'Operation Wanderlust': Dozens arrested in sex trafficking investigation

A suspect who drove from Boca Raton is connected to human trafficking in Hillsborough County, along with dozens of others arrested by deputies.

The Hillsborough Sheriff's Office said it rescued one victim and another potential victim of sex trafficking, who were both 15 years old.

The investigation, which was named "Operation Wanderlust," began in November 2021 with undercover detectives, officials said. They posed as minors online in the human trafficking section.

“The HCSO Human Trafficking Squad works diligently to save our children from becoming victims to sexual predators that use technology to hunt in the shadows of the internet,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Through operations like Wanderlust, we are constantly taking a proactive approach to finding these predators, and our efforts will not stop."

During online chats, they would pose as teens as the suspects solicited sexual acts from the minors, and agreed to drive to meet their potential victims for sex. The suspects drove from all over Tampa Bay and from Boca Raton, officials said.

John Getejanc was arrested in Boca Raton, deputies said.

179 prostitution-related arrests made leading up to Super Bowl LVI, LAPD chief says

LOS ANGELES - Law enforcement arrested 179 people for allegedly soliciting, facilitating and seeking sex services in the Los Angeles area during the 10 days leading up to the Super Bowl, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore told the Police Commission Tuesday.

Eighty-nine people were arrested for alleged street prostitution and 70 were arrested at hotels and other locations where they had been allegedly been called for sex services, Moore said. An additional 14 people were arrested for allegedly facilitating or orchestrating "sex trafficking" and six people were arrested for attempting to buy sex services, according to Moore.

Four people who were identified as being victims of sex trafficking were put in contact with organizations that provide shelter and services to help them transition out of sex trafficking, the police chief said.

He told the Police Commission Tuesday that the Los Angeles Police Department worked with the sheriff's department and the Department of Homeland Security on focused enforcement against human trafficking, which he said mega events like the Super Bowl can attract. Law enforcement, LAX, advocacy groups and the California Attorney General worked to spread awareness about sex trafficking ahead of the Super Bowl, including through the "It's A Penalty" campaign, which began in 2014 to harness the attention around sports to spread awareness about human trafficking.

Some critics have argued that the narrative about prostitutes and sex trafficking victims flocking to Super Bowl cities during the event is a myth. The claim was even rated as "mostly false" by the fact-checking website Snopes. But the event annually prompts large-scale, coordinated enforcement campaigns by local and federal law enforcement, along with community advocacy groups, aimed at cracking down on sex-trafficking and rescuing victims.

Law enforcement also focused its resources ahead of the Super Bowl on counterfeit merchandise. Moore said Tuesday that more than 1,000 items were recovered with a value totaling more than $120,000. Five people were arrested.

Justin Trudeau’s Justice Minister, David Lametti on Wednesday said that being pro-Trump is a factor that will decide if your bank account is seized or frozen under Trudeau’s Emergency Orders.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (Castro Jr.) this week invoked the Emergency Act to break up the Freedom Convoy and freeze funding for the truckers.

Trudeau is also using the Emergency Orders to freeze personal accounts of people who donated to the trucker convoy.

Christian crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo was back online Tuesday after being hacked by crazy leftists.

The platform has been under attack for hosting a fundraiser for the Canadian trucker Freedom Convoy and refusing to comply with an order from the Canadian government to freeze the funds.

Now the donors to the freedom convoy are being harassed, threatened and fired.

Justice Minister David Lametti said if you are part of a pro-Trump movement you should be worried that your account will be seized.

“If you are a member of a pro-Trump movement who’s donating hundreds of thousands of dollars… you ought to be worried,” Lametti said.
