U do understand that light bends(refracts) differently through different mediums right? The Chicago pic was taken on a very cold day with a temp inversion in the atmosphere & ur bottom one was obviously taken on a much hotter day. Ur trying to use too very different atmospheric conditions to explain one thing when, like I said, light refracts differently through different mediums. Hence ur not gonna get the same type of mirage from 2 very different sets of atmospheric conditions.
