Massive U-Turn: Austria to Repeal Almost All âCorona Apartheidâ Rules Targeting Unvaxxed
Peter Caddle17 Feb 2022
In what amounts to a seismic u-turn in policy, Austria is to relax all âCorona Apartheidâ rules targetting the nationâs unvaccinated, despite having previously promised to keep unjabbed individuals under perpetual lockdown.
Austriaâs coalition government has announced that the vast majority of lockdown measures in place in the country â including the almost all âCorona Apartheidâ restrictions specifically targeting the nationâs unvaccinated â are to be scrapped from March 5.
This is despite authorities having previously promised that unjabbed individuals would remain under harsh restrictions in perpetuity, with the nationâs then-Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg telling Austrians that the unjabbed would not be able to participate in society until they were inoculated against the Chinese Coronavirus.
However, according to a report by Kronen Zeitung, this threat has not aged well, with the government announcing a roadmap for the relaxation of COVID measures which will see the nationâs unvaccinated once again allowed into bars and restaurants as soon as this Saturday.
From Feb 19th, regulations banning the unjabbed from bars and restaurants are to be relaxed, with individuals who have neither been vaccinated, nor have recovered from COVID-19, once again to be allowed present a negative test for the disease in order to enter such establishments.
Whatâs more, Austriaâs unjabbed will not even have to put up with this inconvenient measure for long, with the use of vaccine passes in the country set to be all but abolished on March 5.
The almost complete removal of vaccine passes from Austrian life will coincide with the abolition of the vast majority of Austriaâs other COVID lockdown rules, such as a curfew on the nationâs hospitality sector.
Some rules will nevertheless remain in place, however, including the mandatory use of high-class FFP2 masks on public transport and in supermarkets.
The use of COVID certs will also be maintained with hospitals and nursing homes within the country, while entering Austria from abroad will also reportedly require either proof of vaccination, recovery, or a negative COVID test.
While Austria had already returned limited freedoms to the nationâs unvaccinated earlier in the year, this announcement marks a significant u-turn on the nationâs approach to dealing with unvaccinated individuals.
However, despite these relaxations, authorities still seem to remain adamant about its continued regime of forced vaccination.
Vaccination against the Chinese Coronavirus has been mandatory for all over-18s within the country since February 5, though the use of penalties â including fines of up to âŹ3,600 â has yet to come into effect.
While authorities in the country have emphasised that the forced vax rules are not âa short-term measure, but a medium-term perspectiveâ that is required to tackle COVID, Karl Nehammer â who serves as the nationâs current chancellor â has emphasised that a commission of experts is to be set up to continuously analyse the constitutionality and necessity of compulsory vaccination within Austria.
The Chancellor claims that an initial assessment of the rules is expected on March 15, shortly before penalties for the unjabbed are expected to come into force.
This reassurance that the rules are to be constantly reexamined comes hot on the heels of a report by Kronen Zeitung which claimed that the forced vax rules currently in place have not had a positive effect on vaccine uptake in the nationâs capital of Vienna.

Space Force Is Still Finding Its Way. Space Force Offers Clues
Ramin SkibbaFeb 17, 2022 7:00 AM
As the Netflix series starts its second season, both the fictional and the real military service are struggling with identity crises.
One year ago, it was unclear whether the beleaguered US Space Force would survive. It was former president Trumpâs initiative, and a widely ridiculed one at that, and some wondered if President Biden would can it. He didn't. Now, the US militaryâs sixth branch is struggling to find legitimacy and purpose in a world that still snickers at its Star Trek-ian logo and goofy name.
Netflixâs Space Force flies on a similar trajectory. Launched in 2020 as a send-up of Trumpâs agency, the series, which returns Friday for a second season, faces an identity crisis not unlike that of its namesakeâalbeit one with less brinkmanship and more comedy. Itâs searching for a prime directive, a mission, now that the branch it satirizes is no longer a viral meme. Yet even if jokes about a constantly tweeting president no longer land, Space Force still shows where the Space Force could go.
(This is your obligatory spoiler warning. If you donât mind minor plot details, full speed ahead.)
This, perhaps, most comes through when Space Force highlights the risks and consequences of arms races in space, especially between the US, China, and Russia. The showâs first season, for example, involved a Chinese spacecraft clipping the solar panels off of a US satellite, maiming its only power source. In response, General Mark Naird (show cocreator Steve Carell) unsuccessfully deployed a chimp (or âchimpstronautâ) to space to save them, and later the clash nearly led to a conflict between Chinese and American astronauts on the moon. By the end of the second season, hackers, apparently Russian, have temporarily disabled a satellite called Blue Ăyster Cult, which began descending in the atmosphere and feared the reaper.
The real Space Force, led since its inception in December 2019 by General John âJayâ Raymond, thankfully hasnât witnessed such attacks, but the escalating competition and growing threats are there. The three big space powers have all tested anti-satellite missiles and conducted research and development on high-energy lasers that could be fired at satellites. Relations between the countries could easily worsen, and Raymond would be wise not to follow, well, any of Nairdâs examples.
The US Space Force's goal isn't to start a space conflict, but rather to have the muscle necessary to respond to one. Thatâs all well and good, but itâs dangerous when all sides see it that way, since deterrence and defense can look like offense to oneâs rivals. If anything, the Space Forceâthe real oneâwould do well to have its own Dr. Adrian Mallory (John Malkovich), someone who often (though not always) serves as the conscience of the agency on Space Force, someone who looks to science first, military retaliation last, and considers ethics when others donât.
Netflixâs series also offers some bitter pills of space diplomacy. In the new seasonâs third episode, Naird hosts a tense meal with the agency's Chinese counterparts. The scene is one of many that weaves a bureaucratic storyline with an interpersonal one, giving the Chinese delegation more nuance than they had in the first season, where the members largely came off as cartoonish villains. âIt wasn't about politics, it wasnât about the deal, it was about what we can relate to: the human experience and family and friends,â says Jimmy O. Yang, who plays scientist Dr. Chan Kaifang and also served as a writer on season two. âAnd thatâs how you make headway in humanizing the opposite side.â
In the show and in the real world, the Space Force sometimes collaborates with the Air Force and NASA on research, training, and technology development, but it often seems caught between their completely different missions. Thatâs especially the case on Space Force, where âguardiansâ participate in moon and Mars missions, and are also tasked with preventing alien contamination of spacecraft and tracking near-Earth asteroids, efforts traditionally within NASAâs ambit.
So how can the Space Force realize its mission, to keep space safe and accessible while also protecting US national interests? The challenges will only grow as traffic in orbit increases, spacecraft become more advanced and can be more easily targeted, and as agencies and companies rush to once again have âboots on the moon.â A small step for humankind would be to have rules in space, or at least norms of behavior, to discourage weapons tests and cyberattacks and reduce the chance of a deadly misunderstanding. After being on the fence for years, the US military, including the Space Force, now supports developing such norms. To quote Dr. Mallory, âSpace should be a zone of wonder, not of conflict and death.â

Trudeau Doesn't Want To End The Protests Peacefully. He Wants Violence
They are not even a national emergency according to the Emergencies Actâs own definition: an âurgent and critical situationâ that âseriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it.â
No reasonable person thinks thatâs what the protests in Ottawa are. The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has said the federal government has not met the threshold necessary to invoke the Emergencies Act, and that invoking it âthreatens our democracy and our civil liberties.â According to some recent polls, a not insignificant number of Canadians agree.
Yet Trudeau is bringing down the full force of the federal government to quash the Freedom Convoy. Under the Emergencies Act, protesters can have their bank accounts frozen, and so can people who simply donate to protesters. Crowdfunding platforms and payment service providers must cease all services to anyone they suspect might be participating in âillegal blockades,â and report it to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Truckers can have their commercial and private driversâ licenses revoked, and can lose their insurance and their vehicles.
Even more ominously, Canadiangovernment officials are now warning parents who bring their children to âillegal assemblies,â or even provide food or fuel to protesters, that they could not only face jail time and steep fines, they could lose custody of their children. On Wednesday, the Childrenâs Aid Society of Ottawa put out a statement urging parents at the demonstrations to make alternate care arrangements, âshould they become unable to care for their children following potential police action.â
The threat here is obvious: if you protest, weâll arrest you and take your children away. Trudeau (Clintonâs advice) has effectively weaponized Canadaâs version of child protective services to suppress legitimate political dissent. What do you think is going to happen when the police start trying to remove children from their parents? If it were your child, what would you do?
But that would create a disturbing spectacle at the least, and at worst provoke a confrontation that could turn violent.
If that happens, Trudeau will bear the blame. He has set up a situation where violence, or at least some kind of forcible crackdown by Canadian law enforcement against protesters, is becoming inevitable.
At no point, even after drawing widespread criticism for his mishandling of the situation, has Trudeau shown any sign of compromise, or done anything to give the protesters an off-ramp. As Eric Kaufman noted this week in the Telegraph, Trudeauâs hypocrisy in these matters is blatant:
Contrast his combative posture towards the truckers with his gentle approach to protesters who would seem to share his philosophy. When Left-wing arsonists burned some 30 Catholic churches over a false claim that mass graves had been discovered near a former residential school for indigenous Canadians, Trudeau called the violence âunderstandableâ. When indigenous protesters and their allies blocked rail lines and pipelines over a longer period than the trucker convoy, Trudeau patiently called for âdialogue and mutual respectâ.
At this point, if youâre a protester in Canada, or someone who supports the protests, or even someone who thinks the protesters are wrong but the government has gone too far, the message from Trudeau is clear: We will not listen to you, we will not compromise with you, and if you donât comply with our orders, we will ruin you.
That is a recipe for violence, and Trudeau knows it. He wants to make an example out of these truckers because deep down he is an illiberal man with an intolerant worldviewâŚ.

Ex-Georgia official wore fake pregnancy stomach in paid leave scheme
Mark Lungariello
Yikes look at that face! Welcome to Georgia where the grift never ends!
A former Georgia official faked being pregnant so she could take paid maternity leave â but her scheme came apart when a co-worker noticed her baby bump was bogus, officials said.
Robin Folsom, 43, also allegedly made up a fake baby daddy to send an email to her bosses that said she was under doctorâs orders for several weeks of bed rest after giving birth in May 2021, the Georgia Office of the Inspector General announced this week.
The birth-that-wasnât came two months after a co-worker at the stateâs Vocational Rehabilitation Agency allegedly saw part of Folsomâs fake pregnancy stomach âcome awayâ from her body, according to a news release from the IGâs office.
Folsom, director of external affairs for the agency, sent her co-workers photos of her supposed newborn, but they âdepicted children with varying skin tones,â the release stated.
The father of her child, Bran Otmembebwe, was a made-up person, but Folsom, when pressed by investigators in October 2021, doubled down and said he really existed, the indictment against her says.
Folsom had informed the agency that she gave birth once before, in July 2020, and got pregnant again in August 2021. But the IG found there were no official records of Folsom having given birth and her insurance records didnât indicate any pregnancy or delivery. She resigned from her state gig last October after investigators interviewed her as part of the probe into her fake pregnancies, the release said.
âAll state employees, and especially those that communicate with the media and general public on behalf on their agency, should be held to the highest standards of integrity and honesty,â IG Scott McAfee said in a statement. âOIG will continue to hold state employees accountable if they choose to deceive their superiors and receive undeserved compensation.â
Folsom was charged with three counts of making false statements and one count of identity fraud after a local grand jury indicted her, state Attorney General Chris Carr announced this week.
âFraud by state employees will not be tolerated,â Carr said in a statement. âBy working with Georgiaâs independent inspector general, we were able to discover, investigate and put an end to this alleged deception. We will always stand up to protect taxpayer dollars, and we look forward to presenting our case in court.â
