118 arrested in undercover sex trafficking operation in Valley

Police said the Phoenix HEAT unit worked with human trafficking units from Scottsdale, Glendale, Mesa, Tempe, HSI, and the FBI to address the problem in the Valley.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police announced Friday the arrest of 118 people in an undercover investigation aimed at preventing human trafficking-related crimes in the Valley.

Police said the Phoenix HEAT unit worked with human trafficking units from Scottsdale, Glendale, Mesa, Tempe, HSI, and the FBI to address the problem in the greater Phoenix area.

Officials said the joint operation was conducted in Scottsdale and Phoenix and resulted in 118 arrests related to prostitution, luring, pandering, escort service violations, and warrants.

The investigations took place in two phases, the first over a three-day period in January. Phase two took place over a three-day period in February, police said.

Officials said three of the subjects arrested had outstanding felony warrants; one of which was for homicide out of Texas.

One person was arrested after they agreed to meet, believing they were paying to have a sexual encounter with an underage male.

In addition, several possible traffickers were identified, and follow-up investigations are pending.

Police said the combined efforts of the agencies are part of a nationwide effort to eliminate human and sex trafficking.

56 arrested in Orange County human trafficking operation

"Operation Red Zone" was conducted from Feb. 9 through Feb. 12, in partnership with the Orange County Intelligence Assessment Center, local law enforcement and federal agencies. In total 56 people have been arrested. Two of the victims recovered through the operation were under the age of 16.

"Human traffickers know that if they come to Orange County, we are going to find them, we are going to arrest them, and we are going to prosecute them," Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a press release. "Proactive investigations like this allow law enforcement agencies to contact vulnerable victims of sex trafficking who might have otherwise never been able to escape their traffickers and receive valuable victim services that can help them heal, and every arrest we make and every case we file serves as a message to human traffickers everywhere: don’t come to Orange County."

Boris Johnson says Russia waging 'biggest war since 1945' amid rising tensions in Ukraine

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris John has claimed that should Russia invade the Ukraine, the Kremlin would be waging the "biggest war since 1945".

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Johnson said that "all the signs are that (Moscow's) plan has already in some senses begun" and "there's no burnishing it".

"I'm afraid to say that the plan we are seeing is for something that could be really the biggest war in Europe since 1945 just in terms of sheer scale," Mr Johnson said.

"People need to understand the sheer cost in human life that could entail."

People should not just consider the possible loss of life of Ukrainian residents, but also of "young Russians" as well, he added.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday called for Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet him and seek resolution to the crisis.

"I don't know what the president of the Russian Federation wants, so I am proposing a meeting," Mr Zelenskyy said at the Munich Security Conference, where he also met with US Vice President Kamala Harris.

Mr Zelenskyy said Russia could pick the location for the talks.

"Ukraine will continue to follow only the diplomatic path for the sake of a peaceful settlement."

There has been no immediate response from the Kremlin.

Mr Zelenskyy spoke hours after separatist leaders in eastern Ukraine ordered a full military mobilisation on Saturday while Western leaders made increasingly dire warnings that a Russian invasion of its neighbour appeared imminent.

In new signs of fears that a war could start within days, Germany and Austria told their citizens to leave Ukraine.

German air carrier Lufthansa cancelled flights to the capital, Kyiv, and to Odessa, a Black Sea port that could be a key target in an invasion.

Hollywood Celebrities Supported Louisville BLM Fund That Bailed Out Quintez Brown: ‘Getting Heroes Out of Jail’

Hollywood celebrities supported a Black Lives Matter bail fund that recently bailed out Quintez Brown, the BLM and anti-gun activist who has been charged with the attempted murder of a mayoral candidate in Louisville, Kentucky.

Celebrities who have promoted or donated to the Louisville Community Bail Fund, which is overseen by Black Lives Matter Louisville, include ABC’s Scandal star Kerry Washington, actress-singer Janelle Monáe, Schitt’s Creek actor Dan Levy, Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik, and Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Many of the stars encouraged their fans to donate to the bail fund in 2020 during the BLM riots related to the shooting death of Breonna Taylor by Louisville police that year.

Quintez Brown was arrested this week and was charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting at Louisville, Kentucky, mayoral candidate Craig Greenburg (D).

Brown reportedly entered Greenberg’s campaign headquarters and opened fire with a Glock 9mm handgun. Greenberg was not injured in the attack and Brown was apprehended ten minutes afterward.

Just days after his arrest, the Louisville Community Bail Fund posted the $100,000 bond to free Brown from jail as he awaits trial. Brown penned an anti-gun newspaper column in 2019 for Louisville’s Courier-Journal in which he excoriated “gun-loving Republicans.”

Celebrities championed the Louisville Community Bail Fund as an instrument of social justice during the 2020 BLM riots.

Hidden Figures star Janelle Monáe urged her fans to donate to the fund. “I’m getting heroes out of jail in Louisville. Join me if you can (especially those who seek to be allies). Let’s donate,” she tweeted that year.
