Ukraine is spook central. Front lines since at least WWII between Germany and Russia.
Start with the premise that we are in fact witnessing a massive shift in the spheres of influence around the globe - a rebalancing of power. Not a difficult premise to accept.
Also, assume that Trump, Putin, and Xi (more importantly, the factions they represent) have essentially worked out a balance of power in which Russia is the dominant power in continental Europe (or at least E. Europe).
What you are seeing is the dying throes of the old guard begging Russia to do something stupid on the front lines of the advancing Russian sphere, so that it can start a war (world war III) and blame it on Russia. That, or get Putin to heel.
Also, probably lots of evidence of corruption (witnesses) that could take down the whole US government exists in Ukraine.
