Senegal Protesters Demand Stricter Laws Against LGBT Communities

>621 views | Feb 21, 2022

Thousands of protesters gathered in the Senegalese capital, Dakar on Sunday, calling for stricter laws against homosexuality. The rally was prompted after Senegal’s government rejected proposed legislation that would have made anti-LGBT laws tougher.

The protest was organized by the religious group ‘And Samm Jikko’, which translates as ‘Safeguarding values together’, after a motion was rejected which would have seen possible prison terms for ‘committing an immodest or unnatural act with a member of the same sex’ increased from five to 10 years. The demonstrators held anti-LGBT placards and banners, and chanted ‘No to homosexuality’.
