At least 59 killed in mining blast – media

An explosion struck a mining site in Burkina Faso, known for its rapidly growing gold mining industry

A powerful explosion near a gold mining site in Burkina Faso has killed at least 59 people, according to media reports citing witnesses and “regional authorities.” Over 100 people were reportedly injured in the blast.

The explosion occurred on Monday afternoon in the village of Gbomblora in southern Burkina Faso. The blast is believed to have been triggered by chemicals being used to treat gold at what reportedly was a makeshift mining site, though local officials have told state media the actual cause is not yet known, according to Reuters.

One witness, a forest ranger named Samson Kambou who was on site during the explosion, described seeing bodies “everywhere” following the blast.

“I saw bodies everywhere. It was horrible,” she told AP.

Images of the destruction at the site after the explosion have been posted to social media, showing leveled trees and equipment and bodies being covered with mats.

Burkina Faso is home to numerous gold mining sites, some informal setups with minimal regulation, and is the fifth biggest producer of gold in Africa.

All the old Aus PM's are getting in on it as well - these clowns are rattled

Morrison calls for Russia to 'step back', as Abbott warns invasion of Poland and Baltic nations may follow

"Russia should step back," Prime Minister Scott Morrison has declared, as President Vladimir Putin ordered what he described as peacekeeping troops into two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine.

Mr Morrison described the suggestion that troops were being ordered into the Moscow-backed separatist territories to maintain peace as "nonsense".

"It should unconditionally withdraw back behind its own borders and stop threatening its neighbours," Mr Morrison said of the move, which appears to be a precursor for full-blown invasion.

"It's unacceptable, it's unprovoked, it's unwarranted," he said.

Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott warned Russia could try to invade Poland and the Baltic states if it succeeds in Ukraine.

Speaking with The Sydney Morning Herald, Mr Abbott said Russia could be on the brink of bringing down a "new Iron Curtain" on eastern Europe.

Mr Morrison said he was "aware" of Mr Abbott's comments but that he was focused on immediate developments.

==Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has also condemned the action and called for Russia to respect Ukraine's sovereignty.

"We condemn Russia's unilateral recognition of breakaway territories in Ukraine," Mr Albanese said from Tasmania.==

"We respect the sovereignty of Ukraine. Russia should do that too, in accordance with international law

"There is no place in 2022 for nation-states to try to carve off sections of another sovereign nation-state, which is what we're seeing here."

Mr Albanese called on other nations to join in the condemnation of Russia's actions.

"We also think that China and other countries need to speak out in support of the sovereignty of Ukraine," he said.

Kevin Rudd, who preceded Mr Abbott as prime minster, also hit out at Moscow.

"Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a gross violation of international law demanding universal condemnation by all, including China," he wrote on Twitter.

"Respecting the integrity of national borders is axiomatic to global order.

"It also happens to be a core precept of China's stated foreign policy doctrine."

Earlier today Mr Putin recognised the two pro-Moscow territories - the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic - as independent.

Hillary Clinton's 'fake scandal' attack on Durham probe recalls strategy from Whitewater era

As investigators built case that first lady gave inaccurate testimony two decades ago, she unleashed attacks to undercut prosecutors.

A quarter century ago as Whitewater prosecutors closed in on evidence that Bill and Hillary Clinton both gave factually inaccurate testimony, the then-first lady unleashed a blistering attack that stunned a capital city that in those days was far less rancorous.

Mrs. Clinton called the Whitewater probe "an effort to undo the results of two elections," claiming it was run by a "politically motivated prosecutor who is allied with the right-wing opponents of my husband."

Prosecutors have been "looking at every telephone call we've made, every check we've ever written, scratching for dirt, intimidating witnesses, doing everything possible to try to make some kind of accusation against my husband," she declared in that 1998 interview with NBC's "Today" show.

Twenty-four years later, Mrs. Clinton launched a similar attack on Special Counsel John Durham, the current federal prosecutor investigating the conduct of her 2016 campaign and its efforts to falsely portray Donald Trump as a Russian stooge.

Durham has indicted a lawyer for Clinton's campaign and revealed in a recent court filing that computer execs allied with her campaign exploited their access to Internet DNS data in an effort to spy on Trump and find derogatory information linking him to Russia.

She responded by calling the revelations "fake news" and suggesting they came close to meeting the "actual malice" standard for libel of public officials.

Former Whitewater Independent Counsel Robert W. Ray, who eventually wrote the final report accusing Mrs. Clinton of lying to investigators, found a healthy dose of déjà vu in her fresh attack on the Durham probe.

"I think one of the things that grew out of the independent counsel statute and the politicization of prosecution of, or investigation of, high-level government officials is that everybody came to the conclusion that the best way to defend was to go on offense in the political realm," Ray told Just the News in an interview on the John Solomon Reports podcast.

Ray said the goal of such attacks is "to undermine the legitimacy of the prosecutor, and also to turn public sentiment against the prosecutor, to the point where, you know, the public just feels relief and exhaustion over any efforts to hold anybody accountable."

"So that's the playbook," he said.

The Serious Heresy of Amir Tsarfati

As the title states, this article is to address and refute the particular – and very serious – heresy of Amir Tsarfati and to also contribute to refuting others who teach similar heresies. Who is Amir Tsarfati – and why should I focus particular emphasis on his teaching? Amir was born in Israel where he has lived for most of his life. He serves as a major in the IDF Reserve. He is well spoken and has been a tour guide in Israel. He professes to believe in Jesus Christ and in 2001, he became the founder and president of a Bible teaching ministry, “Behold Israel”, which provides a particular emphasis of news and information about Israel. Amir sends out regular emails, called “Bible Bites -Devotionals”. I have responded to some of his “devotionals” and the “ministry care coordinator” of “Behold Israel” on one occassion replied to one of my emails saying, “We will have to agree to disagree agreeably.” It is unfortunately true that there are thousands of Christian denominations and that not all Christians agree on all points of doctrine and interpretation of the Scriptures and prophecy.

Tyranny: Canadian Parliament Votes for Emergencies Act Motion

The Canadian Parliament voted Monday night to approve Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s motion to invoke the Emergencies Act by a vote of 185 for and 151 against.

Trudeau invoked the Act, an unprecedented move, last week claiming it necessary to dispel peaceful protests linked to the Freedom Convoy movement, which is demanding an end to civil rights violations by the Trudeau government allegedly necessary to fight the Chinese coronavirus. At press time on Monday, no active Freedom Convoy protests exist anywhere in Canada.

The motion to uphold the invocation of emergency powers by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau passed in a vote in the Canadian House of Commons on Monday, with the Liberal Party and the NDP and other allies garnering 181 votes for the motion.

The motion was opposed by the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) and the separatist Bloc Quebecois (BQ) and their allies, who voted against it with 151 votes, broadcaster CBC reports.

The passing of the measure in the House of Commons is the first step toward confirming the use of the act, which allows the government significant powers.

The Emergencies Act was invoked for the first time in Canadian history to halt Freedom Convoy protests across the country, which included blockades of border crossings in Ontario, Manitoba, and Alberta, although all of the border blockades ended before the Emergencies Act was formally invoked last week.

Instead, the act was largely used to clear protests in Canada’s capital Ottawa over the weekend and was used to freeze the bank accounts of those linked to the protest. It was also used to force tow truck companies to remove trucks in Ottawa occupying the area around the parliament buildings after the government had trouble hiring tow truckers previously, as many allegedly refused.

Earlier in the day on Monday, Prime Minister Trudeau defended his continued use of the Emergencies Act, despite the fact all of the protests had been cleared or had ended prior to its invocation.
