Work has begun on the construction of a 392-kilometer border wall along Dominican Republic's only land frontier - in an attempt to halt irregular migration and smuggling operations.
While the Dominican Republic is a popular tourist hotspot, the Caribbean nation of Haiti has been plagued with crises. Many Haitians attempt to cross over to find work.
The 20cm think concrete wall, which will be 4-meters high, will have sensors, cameras and dozens of watchtowers. The first phase is expected to finish by the end of the year.
