Ex-rebels burn communist flag, pledge allegiance to gov't

Five hundred former Kagimungan and Anakpawis members and supporters abandoned the communist movement by burning the Reds’ flags and effigies of its leaders and pledging allegiance to the government.

As they their oath of allegiance to the government to help end the local communist armed conflict, they torched the flags of Anakpawis, Kagimungan, and the terrorist Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) as well as the effigies of communist leaders, including CPP founder Jose Ma. Sison.
