Biden orders troops to countries bordering Russia

The US is shifting forces from elsewhere in Europe to Baltic states to bolster NATO defenses

President Joe Biden announced plans to shift some of the US military’s European forces into Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, reinforcing NATO’s northeastern flank after Russia formally recognized the sovereignty of the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

Biden announced the military maneuvering on Tuesday, as he gave a scathing speech accusing Russia of trying to gobble up its neighbor’s territory and announced new sanctions. The Pentagon reportedly said 800 soldiers will be moved to the Baltic region from Italy, while eight F-35 jets will be shifted to Eastern Europe from Germany. In addition, 32 Apache helicopters will be moved to Poland from Germany and Greece.

The moves come a day after President Vladimir Putin announced Russia’s recognition of the Donetsk (DPR) and Lugansk (LPR) People’s Republics as sovereign nations and suggested troops could be sent on a peacekeeping mission in the breakaway territories. Russian lawmakers on Tuesday granted Putin’s request for permission to potentially deploy forces abroad.

“He’s setting up a rationale to take more territory by force, in my view,” Biden told reporters at the White House. “And if we listen to his speech last night – and many of you did, I know – he’s setting up a rationale to go much further.”

Biden, who also announced economic sanctions against Moscow, called Putin’s moves in the Donbass “the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.” He added that the US has “no intention of fighting Russia,” but he emphasized that America and its allies “will defend every inch of NATO territory.”

The statement was consistent with previous assertions that US forces would not be deployed to fight Russians in Ukraine, which isn’t a NATO member, but the president said additional sanctions will be imposed if the situation escalates.

“Who in the Lord’s name does Putin think gives him the right to declare new so-called countries on territory that belonged to his neighbors?” Biden asked. “This is a flagrant violation of international law and demands a firm response from the international community.”

Secretary of State cancels meeting with Russian Foreign Minister

"…The invasion is beginning and Russia has made clear its wholesale rejection of diplomacy," Blinken said.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday announced he no longer will meet this week with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Geneva.

"Now that we see the invasion is beginning and Russia has made clear its wholesale rejection of diplomacy, it does not make sense to go forward with that meeting at this time. I consulted with our allies and partners – all agree," Blinken told reporters at a press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

The announcement comes as the latest sign that diplomacy may not be an option for Russia and the United States.

The Biden administration will persue diplomacy "if Russia is prepared to take demonstrable steps to provide the international community with any degree of confidence it's serious about deescalating and finding a diplomatic solution," Blinken said.

Blinken told reporters that he sent a letter to Lavrov on Tuesday to cancel the meeting. One day prior, Russian leader Vladimir Putin was condemned for recognizing the independence of two breakaway Ukrainian regions.

Reiterating comments from U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Linda Greenfield to the Security Council, Blinken said: "President Putin has now torn to shreds the Minsk agreements, which sought to end the conflict in the Donbas agreement of Ukraine peacefully… President Putin himself essentially declared those agreements null and void."

France Deactivates 4 Million Vaccine Passports, Forcing Double-Jabbed Citizens to Decide Between Taking the Booster or Being Shunned From Society

This past week, the French Government began deactivating the vaccine passports of nearly four million double-vaxxed citizens because they still have not taken the booster, according to France News 24. Individuals who have had their passes taken away will effectively be relegated to unvaxxed status and no longer be able to engage in most aspects of society.

Although some are willing to take the booster, most were caught completely off guard when they checked their app and found their privileges had been revoked.

France has repeatedly changed the time allowed to receive a booster since the third jab was announced. At first, people had 6 months to take the extra shot, then it dropped to just 3 months, then 7. Currently, the booster must be taken in 4 months for the vax pass to remain active.

The changes to the requirements surely played a part in the massive number of people who missed the booster deadline, but there is a growing group of people who are simply unwilling to take more doses of the vaccine.

One woman, who was interviewed by France 24, explained that she was shocked to find her status had been revoked, but said that she would not be taking another jab, calling it “one too many.”

“I don’t have the right to do anything anymore, so I’m not even trying,” the woman explained.

On the flip side, some people couldn’t take the thought of losing their privileges. One woman was so stunned to find out her pass had been revoked that she immediately went to take the booster, which is exactly what the French Government hoped would happen when they canceled the passports. In an interview with France24, the 18-year-old college student explained that she “thought she had more time” and had been “putting off” getting the booster, but the cancelation of her pass prompted her to finally comply.

Democratic lawmaker suggests seizing trucks if they form a convoy to clog the DC beltway: 'Perfect time to impound and give the trucks to small trucking companies'

As reports indicate that trucker convoys will likely descend upon the Washington D.C. area, Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona has suggested that the trucks should be seized.

In light of reports that a convoy could target D.C.'s Capital beltway this week, Gallego, who has served in Congress for more than seven years, suggested seizing the trucks: "Perfect time to impound and give the trucks to small trucking companies looking to expand their business," Gallego tweeted.

Bob Bolus, a trucker convoy organizer, told Fox 5 DC, "We will be along the beltway, where the beltway will be shut down." He also noted that a lane would remain open to allow passage for emergency vehicles.

Conservative radio show host Dana Loesch, responding to Gallego's suggestion that trucks should be seized, noted that such action is, "Also known as theft."

"Shocking, the Democrat wants government to just steal people's property," another Twitter account declared.

"Typical Democrat. Never pass up a chance to steal what other people have earned," someone else tweeted.

Any convoys that show up in the D.C. region would come after people in Canada recently engaged in blockades in that country, though some participants were arrested and those demonstrations have been quashed.

The mayor of Ottawa, Canada has said that he inquired with the city manager about how the trucks towed from the protest could be seized and sold to cover costs incurred in connection with the demonstration.
