Ukie plane may be nothing, but the idea that the West needs to sneak Zelensky out of Dodge has been raised in some places.
There is the possibility, my theory, anyway, that Zelensky and Putin want the corruption around the Ukrainian gas transport pipeline cleaned up. If Zelensky is really looking for the safety of his people, what would work better, allowing NATO in and having a demented potato calling the shots on your foreign policy, or going to a Russian protectorate?
Russia has energy and a military led by a seemingly sentient being who will have your back at crunch time. Unintended consequence of stealing elections is that foreign governments realize that TPTB who control your foreign policy can install a potato who will become the CiC of the world's strongest military any time they want, and giving over your sovereignty to a potato who doesn't have your countryman's best interest at heart during decision making might not be a good long term strategy.
