Head of Crimea: water blockade of peninsula is almost over
When Russia took over Crimea, Kyiv turned of the water supply via the North Crimean Canal. Residents of Crimea receive 80% of their water from that canal.
Now, that water supply has been returned.
This war has a number of political factors, however it seems the main invasion reasoning for Putin has been returning the water supply to Crimea.
The water blockade of the Crimean peninsula has almost come to an end, said the head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, RIA Novosti reports. According to the latest data, the exit of Russian troops to Kherson was secured, which made it possible to lift the blockade from the North Crimean Canal and restore the water supply from the Dnieper to the Crimea.
According to Aksyonov, the Russian armed forces took under control Nova Kakhovka. The canal bed was blocked with a 16-meter barricade. Now the situation is under the control of the Russia's Ministry of Defense.
So far, water has not been let into the canal, the head of Crimea specified. According to him, the technical decisions necessary for this will be made on Friday, February 25.
