The point is, we were asked to shelter for 15 days to flatten the original curve, because we didn't know what we were up against.
Now we know what we are dealing with and even with the deaths (as tragic as they are) they were just about on par with seasonal deaths complicated by any yearly strain of flu.
With Omicron, we found - for most people - the symptoms were fairly mild and so highly contagious that most of the population now has immunity and the recent peak curve is going down as rapidly as it surged.
Unless another strain incompatible with the immunity provided by Omicron and Delta emerges, the peak is past and it is way past time to get back to normal.
