Sanctions are only alternative to ‘third world war,’ Biden says

The US president says sanctions on Russia are the “largest in history”

US President Joe Biden has said that he faced two options following Russia’s offensive in Ukraine: “start a third world war” or hit Russia with economic sanctions. In an interview released on Saturday, Biden insisted that Moscow will pay “a serious price” for its military operation.

“Look, you have two options: start a third world war – go to war with Russia, physically, or two: make sure that a country that acts so contrary to international law pays a price for having done it,” Biden told actor and podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen in an interview posted online on Saturday.

Two days earlier, Biden imposed sanctions on multiple Russian banks, several individuals, and Russia’s tech imports. On Friday, the White House announced it would follow these up with another round of sanctions targeting Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and members of the Security Council of Russia.

Biden has thus far insisted that the US will not intervene militarily in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but has increased military aid to Ukraine and sent thousands of US troops to NATO countries in Eastern Europe.

Immediately before the outbreak of the military actions, Putin warned that any other country interfering in the advance on Ukraine would “face consequences greater than any you have faced in history.”

However, some members of Congress have demanded that Biden go further than sanctions. Following requests from some Ukrainian politicians, Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger, a tacit ally of the Democrat president, has called on Biden to enforce a “no-fly zone” over Ukraine. Such a move would be tantamount to a declaration of war on Russia, critics have warned.

British Spy Boss: ‘LGBT+ Rights’ Are What ‘Distinguish Us from Putin’

“LGBT+ rights” are the most important “values and hard won freedoms” distinguishing “us” from Russian President Vladimir Putin, Richard Moore, chief of MI6, the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service, wrote on Friday.

Moore did not specify if his use of “us” was a reference to the United Kingdom, the Anglosphere, or the broader West.

He expressed his sentiments via Twitter, relating his remarks to ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He included an acronym from “LGBT+ History Month,” with “LGBT+” for “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans +.”

He wrote, “With the tragedy and destruction unfolding so distressingly in Ukraine, we should remember the values and hard won freedoms that distinguish us from Putin, none more than LGBT+ rights. So let’s resume our series of tweets to mark #LGBTHM2022.”

Moore highlighted an “LGBT+ support group” within MI6 to illustrate his emphasis of “LGBT+ rights” as the primary philosophy distinguishing “us from Putin.”

He added, “Introducing P: ‘I had to move for the job when I joined #MI6, so I was relieved to find out there was an LGBT+ network group. Through the group I’ve made some great friends in the office, and it’s reassuring to know it’s there for support if I need it.'”

Moore’s Twitter profile includes “he/him,” a reference to “preferred pronouns” in accordance with transgender ideology’s framing of sex as an arbitrary social construct.

Under Moore’s directorship, the MI6 recently warned the UK’s intelligence personnel of “white privilege,” “hierarchy,” and “gender biases” as part of an effort to develop a “diverse and inclusive culture” across the spy agency.

Weeks ago, the Times reported that MI6 recently began hiring foreigners as part of its “diversity” agenda.

Last year, the intelligence agency chief promised to use the MI6’s resources to spy on other countries to verify their compliance with “climate change” pledges — which he dubbed “green spying” — to address what he labelled a “climate emergency.”

The “climate emergency,” Moore claimed, is “the foremost international foreign policy agenda item for this country and for the planet.”

These clowns are living in an alternate reality

Dem Rep. Wild: Biden Handling Ukraine Crisis ‘Masterfully’ – ‘We Should Have Provided More to Ukraine,’ But That’s Not His Fault

During an interview with MSNBC on Saturday, Rep. Susan Wild (D-PA) argued that President Joe Biden has handled the crisis with Russia and Ukraine “masterfully.” And that while “We should have provided more to Ukraine,” “that’s not President Biden’s fault, that’s the fault of prior administrations.”

Wild said, “I think President Biden has been handling this masterfully. I think he has done an excellent job of both leading and unifying our allies, and I’m proud of that. There are a number of mistakes that have been made over the last decade. We should have provided more to Ukraine, and that’s not President Biden’s fault, that’s the fault of prior administrations. And so, here we are, and here the Ukrainian people are. And we’ve got to do everything that we possibly can to support them.”

Ukrainian Embassy seeks to recruit Israelis to fight Russian invasion

In now-deleted post, mission calls for volunteers to ‘participate in combat actions against the Russian aggressor’; Israeli Foreign Ministry says it’s aware of the matter

The Ukrainian Embassy in Israel on Saturday began actively recruiting people in Israel to fight against the Russian military as its country is facing a full-scale invasion.

“The Embassy has begun the formation of lists of volunteers who wish to participate in combat actions against the Russian aggressor,” the embassy wrote in a public Facebook post written in Ukrainian.

In the post, the embassy asked those who wish to “participate in the protection of Ukraine from the Russian military aggression” to send an email with their personal information, including any “military specialty” they may have.

On Friday, before the Facebook post was published, the Ukrainian ambassador to Israel told journalists that his office had checked and ensured that it was legal for Israelis to volunteer for the Ukrainian military.

Israel does not have a law forbidding citizens from volunteering for other countries’ armies.

=Polish national team refuses to play Russia in the World Cup playoffs, Swedish and Czech teams also boycott

Poland’s national soccer team is refusing to play Russia in a 2022 World Cup playoff match in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The president of the Polish football association, Cezary Kulesza, said that the Polish national team “does not intend” to participate in the playoff match, the BBC reported.

In a joint statement, members of the Polish team said, “We, the players of the Polish national team, together with the Polish Football Association, decided that as a result of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, we do intend to play in the playoff match against Russia.”

“It is not an easy decision,” the statement continued, “But there are more important things in life than football. Our thoughts are with the Ukrainian nation.”

Polish footballer Robert Lewandowksi said, “It is the right decision! I can’t imagine playing a march with the Russian National Team in a situation when armed aggression in Ukraine continues. Russian footballers and fans are not responsible for this, but we can’t pretend that nothing is happening.”

Cezary Kulesza, the current president of the Polish Football Association, said, “Due to the escalation of the aggression of the Russian Federation towards Ukraine the Polish national team does not intend to play the play-off match against Russia.”

Polish President Andrezj Duda replied to Kulesza’s statement saying, “Rightly so, Mr. President. You don’t play with bandits!”

Poland’s Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, also chimed in saying, “You cannot play a match against Russia under such circumstances … Thank you so much for this decision.”

National teams from Sweden and the Czech Republic joined Poland in a joint statement.

Abramovich relinquishes control of Chelsea, still owns club

The Russian-Israeli billionaire is giving up the control of the soccer club after a host of Russian oligarchs have been slapped with sanctions over the Ukraine invasion; he made no mention of the war in his statement

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich handed over the "stewardship and care" of the Premier League club to its charitable foundation trustees on Saturday in an apparent move to fend off calls for him to completely give up control following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian-Israeli billionaire is not selling the club but is giving up any control for now after being targeted by figures, including politicians, over his ownership. The foundation is chaired by Bruce Buck, who is also chairman of the club. Chelsea director of finance Paul Ramos is also among the trustees.
