But then those who admired his initial actions as Attorney General were puzzled when he claimed Jeffrey Epstein did not kill himself. Barr was basically silent after this until the 2020 Election, where he did nothing as the US election was stolen. Now Barr is publishing a book where he claims, after ignoring all the facts and evidence, that the 2020 Election was not stolen. The MSM is all over this in today’s morning news. Former US attorney general Bill Barr has unleashed a volley of criticism at Donald Trump in his new book, saying the ex-president has “shown he has neither the temperament nor persuasive powers to provide the kind of positive leadership that is needed” and that the Republican party should move on from him.

In One Damn Thing After Another, Mr Barr writes that his former boss could have won the 2020 election if he had “just exercised a modicum of self-restraint, moderating even a little of his pettiness”, according to the Wall Street Journal.

He also rejects Mr Trump’s so-called “Big Lie” that he was cheated out of election victory by fraud.

According to the Journal, Mr Barr writes: “The election was not ‘stolen’. Trump lost it.”

Barr shows his real colors by referring to President Trump as “Trump”. He wasn’t in the administration to address the fraud and criminal corruption in the DOJ, he was part of it.

EU to ban RT and Sputnik

European Commission president announces bloc-wide ban on Russian media outlets

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Sunday that the EU will ban the Russian media outlets RT and Sputnik accusing them of spreading “harmful disinformation.” She did not specify whether this ban will apply solely to television broadcasts, or whether RT and Sputnik’s websites will be affected.

In what she called an “unprecedented” step, von der Leyen announced that “we will ban in the European Union the Kremlin’s media machine.”

“The state owned Russia Today and Sputnik, as well as their subsidiaries, will no longer be able to spread their lies to justify Putin’s war and to sow division in our union,” she continued. “We are developing tools to ban toxic and harmful disinformation in Europe.”

Von der Leyen’s move comes a day after the Association of European Journalists called on the EU to implement a bloc-wide ban on RT, and have its journalists “removed.” It also comes several days after the EU sanctioned RT’s editor-in-chief, Margarita Simonyan.

Simonyan responded to the latest ban by declaring that “not a single person who faithfully worked and continues to work for us will be laid off in any country.”

RT has previously faced censorship in Europe, with German regulators banning its German-language channel earlier this month. More recently, Google subsidiary YouTube and Facebook parent company Meta demonetized RT’s accounts on Saturday, while Google blocked downloads of RT’s app on Ukrainian territory earlier on Sunday.

Immediately before announcing the ban on RT and Sputnik, von der Leyen revealed that the EU will also close off its airspace to all Russian aircraft, and will supply Ukraine with weapons.

Turkey restricts Russian Navy access

Situation in Ukraine has escalated into a full-blown war, Turkey’s top diplomat has said

Turkey is set to restrict the access of Russian warships to the Black Sea over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, its Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday.

“It is not a couple of air strikes now, the situation in Ukraine is officially a war… We will implement the Montreux Convention,” the official told CNN Turk in a live interview. “Turkey will implement all provisions of Montreux Convention in a transparent manner,” he added.

Under the 1936 Montreux Convention, which regulates the Black Sea straits, Turkey is able to close the straits for military vessels of any nations at a formal state of war, as well as when it feels itself threatened with an imminent war. The country cannot shut down the straits completely, however, unless it is itself in a state of war.

Ankara will still allow military vessels, returning to their home ports to pass through the straits, Cavusoglu noted. “There should not be any abuse of this exemption. Ships that declare returning to their bases and passing through the straits should not be involved in the war,” the diplomat said.

Kiev has repeatedly urged Ankara to shut the straits down for Russia, despite neither side of the ongoing conflict formally declaring war. Russia launched the large-scale military operation in Ukraine on Thursday, citing the need to protect the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics from an allegedly looming all-out assault by the Ukrainian troops. Ukraine slammed the attack as “unprovoked.”

Kiev has denied seeking to attack the republics that broke away from Ukraine following the 2014 Maidan coup and ousting of the democratically-elected government of the country. Moscow formally recognized the republics as independent states on Monday, signing bilateral friendship treaties with them and pledging military assistance.

Ohio and Texas Issue Warning on Toxic Chemical Found in Mailed At-Home COVID-19 Testing Kit

The at-home rapid COVID-19 tests contained a toxic chemical that can be really harmful and even life-threatening when exposed to a large amount of the chemicals.

Ohio and Texas issued a warning after seeing an increase in reports related to sodium azide poisoning, a chemical found in test kits after Biden promised to give 500 million Covid test kits to Americans.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center released a statement regarding an “increase in accidental exposures to a substance in these kits.”

The substance is sodium azide, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center’s Drug and Poison Information Center has seen a surge in calls about exposures to the chemical since more people started self-testing for COVID-19 at home.

“We started getting our first exposures to these test kits around early November,” said Sheila Goertemoeller, pharmacist and clinical toxicologist for the center. “It was, really, all ages.” The calls to the local center mirror what’s been happening nationally.

Sodium azide, often used as a preservative, is a liquid reagent in several of the COVID-19 test kits, she said. Ingesting it can cause low blood pressure, which can result in dizziness, headaches or palpitations. Exposure to it can also cause skin, eye or nostril irritation.

The Cincinnati Children’s based Drug and Poison Information Center has logged 38 cases of sodium azide exposure, with cases peaking in January. Adults exposed generally have experienced mild skin irritation, which can get worse if the area isn’t washed thoroughly, she said.

Nationwide Children’s Central Ohio Poison Center in Columbus also reported seeing an “uptick” in cases, as well, a spokeswoman said. The center did not immediately have a number of cases.

West Texas Poison Center also issued a warning last week and urged the locals to read the instructions before using any at-home COVID-19 testing kits.

Sarah Watkins, medical director, for West Texas Region Poison Center, an Emergency Medicine Physician and medical toxicologist reported an increase of reports related to sodium azide poisoning.

“It has a chemical in it called sodium azide, which in large amounts can be really dangerous and even life-threatening,” Watkins said.

She said the majority of the calls made are from people who are not reading the instructions.

“We have gotten some calls here in the state of Texas about this,” Watkins said.

She said some people are putting the test swab in the solution and sticking it up their nose.

She said people are also confusing the substance for eyedrops.

“In-home covid tests, there is a dropper that comes in the test, and it looks a lot like eyedrops so it’s really easy to confuse with things that you’re supposed to put into your body,” Watkins said.

Watkins said sodium azide reacts on the body the same way cyanide does.

EU Closes Airspace To All Russian Planes, Bans Media Outlets, After Ukraine Agrees To Hold Talks

Update (1200ET): Despite the relatively positive news that Ukraine has agreed to talks with Russia, the European Union has issued a notable escalation in its 'sanctions' against Russia.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Sunday that the 27-nation bloc will close its airspace to Russian airlines, fund supplies of weapons to Ukraine and ban some pro-Kremlin media outlets in response to Russia’s invasion.

"For the first time ever, the European Union will finance the purchase and delivery of weapons and other equipment to a country that is under attack.”

Von der Leyen added that “we are shutting down the EU airspace for Russians. We are proposing a prohibition on all Russian-owned, Russian registered or Russian-controlled aircraft. These aircraft will no more be able to land in, take off or overfly the territory of the EU.”

She said also the EU will ban “the Kremlin’s media machine. The state-owned Russia Today and Sputnik, as well as their subsidiaries, will no longer be able to spread their lies to justify Putin’s war and to sow division in our union.”

“We are developing tools to ban their toxic and harmful disinformation in Europe.”

Hungary - for now - has said that it won't supply arms to Ukraine.

US Secret Service Claims it CAN’T FIND Three Years Worth of Hunter Biden’s Travel Records After Agency Made “Extensive, Inappropriate Redactions” to Docs Produced Last Month

Republican investigators are seeking answers after the US Secret Service (USSS) made “extensive” and improper redactions to Hunter Biden’s travel records before providing them as part of a FOIA request earlier this month

Unbelievably, three full years of records were completely missing from the documents because, apparently, the records are inexplicably missing and the agency can’t find them.

Last month, Republican Senators Chuck Grassley (IA) and Ron Johnson (WI) requested Hunter’s travel records as part of an ongoing Congressional investigation into the Biden Crime Family for their use of government resources to conduct shady business dealings. In response, the USSS produced 261 heavily redacted pages related to the request but did not include any records for 2010, 2011, or 2013, and provided absolutely no explanation for the omissions.

Because of the USSS’s lack of transparency, Johnson and Grassley immediately filed another request for the unredacted documents and began raising concerns over the missing records, pointing out that Hunter Biden was a Secret Service protectee from January 2009 through July 2014 and the ongoing investigation has already determined he was traveling around the world during that time.

In a letter to the USSS, the pair criticized the agency for hiding crucial information through repeated “inappropriate redactions” that lack “any proper legal justification,” which, they say, has effectively prevented any proper oversight of the Bidens and their illicit business dealings.

From Sens. Grassley and Johnson:

“[This] raises questions, given that USSS travel records show that Hunter Biden made trips to China and other destinations around the world, including, Russia, Italy, Spain, and Mexico.

These inappropriate redactions impede our offices’ ability to understand the full scope of the interactions between Hunter Biden, his associates, and the USSS. The USSS hid names and other information contained in email conversations regarding Hunter Biden without any proper legal justification.”

After over a month of silence, the USSS provided a shockingly poor justification in a letter earlier this month. Agency Director James Murray claimed that they simply couldn’t find any documents related to Hunter’s travels from those years.

“In consultation with the Department of Homeland Security, on June 11, 2021, the Secret Service provided documents responsive to your request in accordance with law, longstanding Executive Branch practice, and Department-wide standards.

In October 2020, the Secret Service worked extensively with your committees, and agreed to search parameters provided by your offices to identify communications regarding Mr. Biden’s travel. These search parameters did not yield communications for the years 2010, 2011, or 2013.”

Seriously?

Thankfully, Johnson and Grassley aren’t buying the weak excuse for a second, and are pushing ahead with the requests for the missing information with the help of government watchdog Judicial Watch.

On June 28, 2018, the Southern District of New York Court (Case 16-CR-371) convicted three individuals for security fraud. Most noteworthy was Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s partner in Rosemont-Seneca-Bohai, LLC (“RSB”). The criminal investigation subpoenas obtained the banking and investment records of RSB documenting security fraud. The RSB financial records further revealed substantial payments from the private Ukrainian energy company known as Burisma Holdings Limited to Devon Archer and Hunter Biden.

Devon Archer and Hunter Biden were appointed to the Ukrainian Burisma board two months after the Coup d’état installed U.S. puppet Petro Poroshenko as Ukraine’s President. Not a mere coincidence since Vice President Joe Biden was Obama’s Ukraine point man. Neither Archer nor Biden had expertise in oil and gas nor spoke the language. The RSB records revealed that each received $83,333.33 per month as director fees over two years.

Ukraine 2014 Coup d’état

After violent events associated with the Maidan revolution protests, Ukraine’s parliament ousted President Viktor Yanukovich in February 2014 and replaced him with Petro Poroshenko. Disposed Yanukovich was an existential threat because his amicable relations with Russia impeded Ukraine from becoming a European member and NATO from expanding to Russia’s border. Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, the midwife of Maidan, threatened sanctions against Ukraine’s government if President Viktor Yanukovych remained in office. (Over 100 people were killed in the protests.)

SDNY Instrument of the Deep State

The Southern District of New York Court (“SDNY”) is the most influential and controversial federal court. The SDNY has a reputation for being an apparatus of the Deep State. Louis Freeh and James Comey, former FBI Directors, served in the SDNY cesspool. The SDNY recently launched a high-profile federal criminal investigation of Rudy Giuliani, while he was serving as Trump’s legal counsel. At the time, Giuliani was encouraging former Ukrainian prosecutor Yuriy Lutsenko to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden. This action by the SDNY was a classic Saul Alinsky’s projection technique of false accusations.

Forensic Evidence

Thanks to the criminal case, the public can now review (linked here) the bank and investment account statements (3/2014 – 5/2016) detailing the exorbitant extortion payments funding Archer’s and Biden’s lavish and decadent lifestyle. On the account statements lower left-hand corner, you will note that prosecuting attorneys labeled “FOIA Confidential Treatment Requested.”

RSB was a corporate shell for laundering funds with significant criminal transactions not associated with Burisma director fees flowing through the accounts.

Hunter Biden, at a minimum, was knowledgeable of the criminal transactions and is an unindicted co-conspirator. The mainstream media knew of the cases but was reluctant to publish information on these cases.

BP Will Exit 20% Stake In Russian State Oil Giant Rosneft

Following days of intense pressure from the U.K. government, UK energy giant BP Plc said it will exit its 19.75% stake in Russian oil company Rosneft, a dramatic reversal after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as Western nations are trying to inflict as much economic pain as possible on Moscow. BP had held its stake in Rosneft since 2013. BP is Rosneft’s biggest private shareholder, according to the Russian company.

Additionally, BP chief executive officer Bernard Looney is resigning from the board of Rosneft with immediate effect. The other Rosneft director nominated by BP, former BP group chief executive Bob Dudley, is similarly resigning from the board.

BP chair Helge Lund said: “Russia’s attack on Ukraine is an act of aggression which is having tragic consequences across the region. bp has operated in Russia for over 30 years, working with brilliant Russian colleagues. However, this military action represents a fundamental change. It has led the bp board to conclude, after a thorough process, that our involvement with Rosneft, a state-owned enterprise, simply cannot continue. We can no longer support bp representatives holding a role on the Rosneft board. The Rosneft holding is no longer aligned with bp’s business and strategy and it is now the board’s decision to exit bp’s shareholding in Rosneft. The bp board believes these decisions are in the best long-term interests of all our shareholders.”

BP chief executive officer Bernard Looney added: “Like so many, I have been deeply shocked and saddened by the situation unfolding in Ukraine and my heart goes out to everyone affected. It has caused us to fundamentally rethink bp’s position with Rosneft. I am convinced that the decisions we have taken as a board are not only the right thing to do, but are also in the long-term interests of bp. Our immediate priority is caring for our great people in the region and we will do our utmost to support them. We are also looking at how bp can support the wider humanitarian effort.”

Bernard Looney has been a director of Rosneft as one of two BP-nominated directors since 2020. Bob Dudley has been a director of Rosneft since 2013.

According to the Rosneft website, Putin chairs the board, which includes Looney as well as heads of Russian banks and other entities that have been subject to Western sanctions. The organization supports arts and other cultural causes, according to the website, which says trustees serve voluntarily.

In December 2021 Rosneft reported that BP is the “leading British investor in the Russian economy with a total investment of $18 billion.” The figure fluctuates based on Rosneft’s value, which has been hammered by the Russia-Ukraine conflict and Western sanctions.

BP said that the resignations will require BP to change its accounting treatment of its Rosneft shareholding and, as a result, it expects to report a material non-cash charge with its first quarter 2022 results, to be reported in May. The company didn’t give details but said the carrying value of the asset stood at $14 billion.

And with BP set to spark a firesale in the already depressed shares, the next question as the FT's Chief Political Correspondents Jim Pickard notes, is "who will the buyer be and at what price."

Ukraine releases convicts to fight Russia

Convicted acid-attack murderer has been allowed to handpick a squad of fellow inmates

Ukraine is releasing inmates and criminal suspects with a military background so they can join the fight against the Russian attack on the country, the national prosecutor general’s office confirmed on Sunday.

Moscow attacked its neighbor on Thursday, arguing it was defending the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, which broke off from eastern Ukraine shortly after the 2014 coup in Kiev. Ukraine condemned the move, claiming it was an act of unprovoked aggression.

A convict's service record, combat experience, and repentance are among the factors considered in each individual case, Andrey Siniuk, an official at the prosecutor general’s office told Western government-funded Hromadske TV on Sunday. “It’s a complicated issue decided at the highest level,” he said.

Siniuk was quoted by Hromadske as saying that Sergey Torbin, a former combat veteran, was one of the inmates released. Torbin previously fought in the conflict with the DPR and LPR. He was jailed for six years and six months in 2018 for his role in the murder of a civil rights activist and anti-corruption campaigner Kateryna Handziuk. The woman was doused with acid in July 2018 on a street outside her home and died in the hospital with severe burns later that year.

Siniuk said Torbin handpicked former inmates for his squad after his early release. He added that another ex-serviceman, Dmitry Balabukha, sentenced to nine years in jail for stabbing a man to death at a bus stop after an argument in 2018, had also been released.

The Ukrainian government is actively arming civilians as Russian forces approach its capital. Media outlets reported renewed fighting in Kiev’s outskirts on Sunday.

China speaks out against sanctions over Ukraine

Beijing believes the West should address Moscow’s “legitimate security demands”

China said on Saturday that Western sanctions slapped on Russia over its military operation in Ukraine will not solve the crisis. Many countries have imposed sweeping restrictions on Moscow, hitting its banks, trade, and largest airline, among other things. Foreign Minister Wang Yi made his comments during a phone call with his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang said “China doesn’t support the use of sanctions to solve problems, and even more so opposes unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law.”

“It’s been long proven that sanctions not only fail to solve [existing] problems, but create news ones, resulting ‘lose-lose’ effects on the economy and interfering in the process of political settlement,” he added.

The minister said China opposes both the use of force and sanctions regarding Ukraine. He argued that Russia’s “legitimate security demands” on NATO’s eastward expansion “should be properly addressed.” Moscow said it seeks legally binding assurances that NATO will never accept Ukraine as a member state and will pull its troops from Eastern Europe – demands that the US-led bloc rejects.

The US, Britain, EU member states, and several other countries imposed new sweeping sanctions on Moscow after it launched a military operation against Kiev on Thursday. Russia argued that the move was necessary to defend the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, which broke off from Ukraine after the 2014 coup in Kiev. Ukraine said the attack by Russia was entirely unprovoked.

Russia vetoed a UN Security Council draft resolution condemning its operation in Ukraine on Friday, while China abstained from voting.

According to Berlin, during her phone call with Wang, Baerbock “stressed that China bears a special responsibility” for the events in Ukraine as a permanent member of the UN’s top decision-making body.

NYPD Police Union President Arrested for Stealing Over $1 Million from Fellow Cops in Lowlife Scheme

New York, NY — Nothing says “culture of corruption” quite like cops committing crimes against their fellow cops. And, perhaps nothing highlights this point better than one of the highest ranking cops in the country waging an elaborate scheme to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from his fellow officers.

This week, Edward Mullins, the former President of the Sergeants Benevolent Association (“SBA”), the union that represents all current and former Sergeants of the New York City Police Department, was charged for fraudulently using union funds for personal gain.

On Wednesday, Mullins turned himself in to the FBI and was charged with one count of wire fraud in connection with his despicable scheme. Mullins’ scheme involved using police union funds to live a lavish lifestyle at the expense of his fellow officers.

After his arrest, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said: “As alleged, Edward Mullins, the former President of the SBA, abused his position of trust and authority to fund a lavish lifestyle that was paid for by the monthly dues of the thousands of hard-working Sergeants of the NYPD.

“Mullins submitted hundreds of phony expense reports to further his scheme, stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the SBA. This Office is committed to rooting out corruption at all levels of government, and that includes public officials like Mullins who use their positions of power to line their own pockets to the detriment of others.”

According to the Department of Justice, for nearly two decades, from 2002 until October 2021, Mullins served as President of the SBA. As president Mullins was responsible for for promoting the general welfare of the SBA’s membership. Instead of doing that, however, this top cop “orchestrated a scheme to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from the SBA and its members.”

The NYPD’s SBA is the fifth largest police union in the country and takes in millions every year in the form of officer dues. For active members, dues are deducted bi-weekly from their paychecks, totaling approximately $1,300 annually for each member and $600 for retired members. Mullins was using their dues to eat $3,000 meals and buy gold watches.

In 2017, Mullins found a friend in the treasurer, who was lazy with checking his receipts and this thieving cop then saw his moment to pounce. According to the DoJ:

Between in or around 2017 and in or around October 2021, MULLINS defrauded the SBA by using his personal credit card to pay for meals at high-end restaurants and to purchase luxury personal items, among other things, and then submitting false and inflated expense reports to the SBA, seeking reimbursement for those bills as legitimate SBA expenditures when in fact they were not. Altogether, MULLINS was reimbursed for over $1 million dollars in expenses from the SBA, the majority of which was fraudulently obtained.

NATO Secretary General Warns Russia of ‘Article 5’ Counter Attack

Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of NATO, has warned Russia that if Moscow’s attack against Ukraine spills over into other European nations who are member states of NATO, it will force the intergovernmental military alliance to take counteraction.

“For NATO Allies, we provide the absolute security guarantees under the Washington Treaty Article 5. An attack on one will be regarded as an attack on all,” Stoltenberg said in a Feb. 25 press conference.

“And we are clear on this distinction because it is important to make sure that we don’t have an even bigger crisis in Europe where Russia challenge, or is threatening, or attacking any NATO allied country.”

Cyber attacks on NATO nations can also trigger Article 5, Stoltenberg stated. NATO is presently focused on “strengthening our cyber defenses” and providing support to Ukraine, he added.

In addition to military attacks, Ukraine has also been hit with cyberattacks from Russia. On Feb. 23, the websites of several government departments and Ukrainian banks became inaccessible. Multiple Ukrainian organizations were hit with a new wiper attack that deleted data on infected machines.

One of the primary aims of NATO, when it was founded in 1949, was to create a pact of mutual assistance to counter the potential risk posed by the Soviet Union. According to Article 5, if any NATO ally becomes a victim of an armed attack, every member state of the alliance will combine and engage in actions to assist the victim against the aggressor.

“Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security,” according to Article 5.

Article 5 can only be invoked if Russia directly attacks any NATO member. As Ukraine is not a NATO member, the organization cannot take action. Ukraine has applied for NATO membership but is yet to be approved. Russia has vehemently opposed Ukraine joining NATO and had made it a condition for withdrawing troops from the Ukrainian border before the war.

Communist China and Russia Plotting a ‘New World Order’, Ukraine Just ‘First Step’, Says Lithuanian MP

Communist China and Vladimir Putin’s Russia are attempting to forge a “New World Order” in which the rules of the world are set in Beijing and Moscow instead of Washington, a Lithuanian MP has told Breitbart News.

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart London, Lithuanian politician Matas Maldeikis has warned that the invasion of Ukraine by Russia is just the first step of the plan to upend the international order.

“Everything is being coordinated with China,” Maldeikis said. “Putin, along with China, is trying to create a New World Order, in which the rules of the world are created in Beijing and Moscow. Ukraine is just a part of this plan. Taiwan also.”

The leading Lithuanian MP said that he believes in exchange for China supporting Russia’s attempts to gain control of the former Soviet satellite state, Russia would in turn ship Ukrainian wheat to China, which has been facing food shortages amid devastating droughts over the past year.

Ukraine has a tragic history of Russia pillaging its food resources, with millions of people starving to death in the Holodomor (death inflicted by starvation) famine of 1932-3 when Stalin’s Soviet Union imposed a brutal communist campaign to collectivise farming and give Moscow the ability to control the supply of grain.

Scholars believe that the communist dictator depleted Ukrainian food stocks in order to weaken the independence movement against the Soviets. Russia disputes this claim and indeed denies that a genocide took place, despite estimates of 4-7 million Ukrainians dying during the Holodomor.

Maldeikis predicted that if Ukraine falls, Vladimir Putin would immediately press on and attempt to capture other former Soviet states such as Moldova and Georgia and then in “five to seven years” would test NATO again by going for the Baltic States, including Maldeikis’ home country of Lithuania, a member of NATO and the EU.

“Putin will tell the President of the U.S. — whoever it will be then — that he should give Baltics to him or he will use nukes against Europe and America. The President will then have to make a decision” as to whether the Baltics should be surrendered, the MP predicted.

Matas Maldeikis MP, who lived under Soviet occupation until Lithuania became the first Soviet republic to declare its independence from the communist regime, said that if Ukraine can withstand the invasion for one month, then politically “Putin will be dead in Russia”.

“Let’s be realistic – we can’t help with military intervention, but we should help them with arms. We must help Ukraine with arms as much as possible,” he said — “and pray for Ukrainian men fighting for a free Western World.”

U.S. Lobbying Firms Terminate Contracts with Sanctioned Russian Enterprises, Banks

A number of United States lobbying firms have terminated contracts with Russian banks and enterprises that President Joe Biden recently sanctioned.

Two U.S. lobbying firms, Roberti Global and BGR Government Affairs, ended their contracts with the company Nord Stream 2 AG, which backs the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline in Europe, Politico reports. Russia’s state-controlled Gazprom owns all of Swiss-based Nord Stream 2 AG’s equity interest, Roberti Global stated in a filing. Biden announced sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG on Wednesday after having lifted sanctions on the pipeline (which were imposed by former President Donald J. Trump) in May, Breitbart News reported.

A Roberti Global spokesperson told Politico the company’s termination of their relationship with the Nord Stream project was done to comply with the sanctions.

Last year, the only firm member registered to lobby on behalf of Nord Stream 2 AG was Roberti Global’s Chair Vin Roberti, Politico reports. In 2021, Nord Stream 2 AG paid the firm $2.4 million. Roberti was an unofficial advisor to the failed 2008 Biden presidential campaign, according to the outlet.

BGR Government Affairs also ended its contract with Nord Stream 2 AG, which paid the firm $870,000 in 2021, Politico reports, citing lobbying disclosure filings.

BGR spokesman Jeffrey H. Birnbaum echoed Roberti Global’s explanation. Walker Roberts, a White House staffer for the Reagan Administration, lobbied for the firm on behalf of Nord Stream 2 AG on issues regarding the U.S. stance on the pipeline, Politico reports.

The law firm Sidley Austin also moved to end its relationship with a Russian client, VTB Bank, which also found itself sanctioned by the Biden administration. A firm spokesperson told POLITICO in a statement on Friday that “VTB Group is no longer a client of Sidley Austin LLP in compliance with U.S. sanctions.” In an announcement of new sanctions on Thursday, which included the onetime Sidley Austin client, the Treasury Department said that VTB Bank — Russia’s second largest financial institution — was “one of the largest financial institutions Treasury has ever blocked.”

Mercury Public Affairs cut ties with its Russian clients on Friday as well. The lobbying firm has represented En+ Group, the Russian energy and mining conglomerate formerly controlled by sanctioned oligarch Oleg Deripaska since May of 2019, but told POLITICO it was terminating its contract with the company. En+ has avoided sanctions thus far as the White House has sought to spare the energy sector for the time being. Mercury is also parting ways with Russia’s Sovcombank, which had hired the firm last month to avert U.S. sanctions. Sovcombank was one of several financial institutions hit with penalties on Thursday.

Geopolitical Solutions, a firm also known as Geopols that is registered with the Department of Justice on behalf of Vnesheconombank, moved to formally terminate its relationship with the bank on Tuesday, according to a source familiar with the matter. That same day, the administration announced sanctions on the Vnesheconombank, Promsvyazbank and 42 of their subsidiaries. The Treasury Department said that those two entities were “state-owned institutions that play specific roles to prop up Russia’s defense capability and its economy.”

Another lobbying firm, McLarty Inbound, did not have a contract with Nord Stream 2 AG but did have lobbying contracts with the pipeline’s five investors, which the firm ended Wednesday, according to Politico. Since 2017, the firm had received $3.5 million from the investors, CNN reports.
