A lot of drugs are laced with fillers like pig dewormer so meth can technically save your life. Heroin/Morphine is also known to boost immune system and preserve cells (anti-aging). I've met a lot of functional addicts that have no problem working or sleeping. If anything it motivates some people to work and buy more drugs and the heroin helps them sleep. Diet part is because they spend all their money on drugs. I've been homeless for a few months and have been around and got to know many drug addicts. I even tried some of the drugs for a while but it's easy to quit that stuff when you have the best addiction of all… the Internet.
