Japan sanctions Putin

Tokyo vows to ‘freeze assets’ of top Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin

Japan has slapped Russia with additional sanctions for its offensive in Ukraine, targeting three state banks and six individuals, including President Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.

“We've agreed on the need to take powerful sanctions against Russia,” Prime Minister Fumio Kishida declared on Tuesday.

Japan’s asset freeze will also target Russia’s central bank, as well as the state-owned Vnesheconombank and Promsvyazbank. In addition, Tokyo will ban exports to 49 Russian companies and entities.

Japan joins the US, EU and other Western allies in introducing embargoes against Moscow for what they describe as “an invasion of Ukraine.” The measures mostly focus on cutting off certain Russian banks from global financial transactions and freezing assets abroad.

Putin announced that Russia would launch a special military operation in Ukraine last Thursday, calling for the complete “demilitarization” and “denazification” of the country, and made a pledge to prosecute those who were involved in “numerous bloody crimes against civilians.”

Kiev, however, claims the attack was “unprovoked,” insisting it has had np plans to retake the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Lugansk by force. They split from Ukraine back in 2014 following the Maidan coup, which ousted the democratically-elected government in Kiev, and endured years of low-intensity warfare that left thousands of people dead.

Scott Morrison unveils $70 million in defensive support for Ukraine: Australia to supply missiles and ammunition

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced Australia will spend $70 million in defensive support for Ukraine, including supplying missiles and ammunition.

Australia will provide Ukraine with missiles and ammunition as part of a $70 million defensive support package to help the country defend itself against Russia.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the measure on Tuesday, saying Australia was answering the call of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"He said 'Don't give me a ride, give me ammunition' and that is exactly what the Australian government has agreed to do," Mr Morrison said.

"We will be committing US$50 million to support both lethal and non-lethal defensive support for Ukraine. The overwhelming majority of that, that is some AU$70 million, will be in the lethal category.

"We are talking missiles, ammunition, we are talking supporting them in their defence of their own home land in Ukraine and we will do that in partnership with NATO."

Mr Morison said he was not going to into specifies of the support as he did want to give Vladimir Putin's government a heads up.

"I don't plan to give the Russian government a heads up about what is coming their way but I can assure them it is coming your way," he said.

Mr Morison said Australia will also provide $35 million in humanitarian support to international organisations.

"(Supporting) their efforts with shelter, food, medical care, water and education support. This will be our opening contribution," he said.

"We expect over time there will be further requests and we will be addressing those as time goes on."

“Law & Order: SVU” star Ned Eisenberg has died at 65 following a “private” two-year cancer battle.

His wife Patricia confirmed his death in a statement to TMZ on Monday.

“As Ned would say, he was attacked by two very rare assassins — cholangiocarcinoma [bile duct cancer] and ocular melanoma. Over the course of two years, he bravely fought the cancers in private while continuing to work in show business to ensure that his medical coverage paid for himself and his family,” Patricia told the news outlet.

His rep Jeremy Leiner announced that he died Sunday at his home in New York.

Eisenberg is best known for portraying defense lawyer James Granick in “Law & Order” (1997-2009) and defense lawyer Roger Kressler “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (1999-2019), and he most recently played Detective Hauser in the 2021 HBO series “Mare of Easttown.”

The prolific actor was born and raised in New York City and studied acting at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. He was also a co-founder of the Naked Angels theater company.

Arizona GOP Sues Secretary of State Katie Hobbs To Ban Unconstitutional Drop Boxes, And No-Excuse Mail-In Voting In Arizona

The Arizona GOP has filed a lawsuit against radical leftist Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs to protect Arizona’s elections from bad actors.

The full forensic audit of Maricopa County discovered numerous election law violations, including lack of signature verification and chain of custody documentation. Auditors identified over 700,000 ballot discrepancies during the audit.

The lawsuit was filed in the Arizona Supreme Court on Friday seeking to ban unconstitutional drop boxes and no-excuse mail-in voting. It will also require the Arizona Secretary of State to include signature verification guidelines in the Arizona Elections Procedures Manual.

Dinesh D’Souza’s upcoming documentary will expose the illegal ballot trafficking operations that occurred at drop boxes in Arizona and other key swing states where they stole the election from President Trump.

The lawsuit states,

In July 2020, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs (“Secretary”) issued a Signature Verification Guide (“2020 Guide”) outlining procedures for verifying signatures on early ballot envelopes. However, the Secretary has never added these procedures to the operative Elections Procedures Manual (“EPM”), or an addendum thereto, as required by A.R.S. § 16-452. If adopted into the EPM and approved by the Governor and Attorney General, the procedures would have the force of law, and their violation would be punishable as a misdemeanor. Id. at (C);

The Secretary’s failure to execute her non-discretionary duty under A.R.S. § 16-452(B) to include the procedures in the EPM means county recorders are not required to follow them. Even if they were, the Secretary’s procedures purport to authorize counties to supplement her rules with their own See, e.g., 2020 Guide at 1. Failure to include the procedures in the EPM also means the Secretary can modify them at will without the checks and balances that approval by the Governor and Attorney General provides. Thus, the Secretary’s signature verification procedures do not ensure that “the maximum degree of correctness, impartiality, uniformity and efficiency,” A.R.S. § 16-452(A), will be achieved among Arizona counties in the 2022 state general election.

On the other hand, exceeding her legal authority, the Secretary has prescribed rules in the EPM allowing county officials to “develop and implement procedures” for placing drop-boxes, including “unstaffed drop-box[es],” in various locations throughout the several counties. Neither the Secretary nor county recorders have statutory authority to implement “drop-box” voting under Arizona law. Moreover, the legislature may not delegate this authority to the Secretary, nor may the Secretary delegate a portion of this authority to county recorders, as the EPM purports to do. See EPM at 60–61.

These recent abuses are possible because of a longstanding deviation from Arizona’s constitutional mandates regarding the time, place, and manner of elections. Stated simply, Arizona’s “early voting” statutes—which provide for “absentee” or “no-excuse mail-in” voting—violate the Arizona Constitution, in whole or in part.

Absentee voting naturally lends itself to these and other abuses, which is why Arizona’s constitution is a product of the national movement to implement the “Australian ballot system,” a secure system quickly adopted by several states with little controversy and containing the following four essential provisions: (1) ballots printed and distributed at public expense; (2) ballots containing the names of all the candidates duly nominated by law (a “blanket ballot”); (3) ballots distributed “only by election officers at the polling place (‘exclusive’ or ‘official ballot’)”; and (4) detailed provisions for compartments and “other physical arrangements to ensure secrecy in casting the vote.” John C. Fortier & Norman J. Ornstein, The Absentee Ballot and the Secret Ballot: Challenges for Election Reform, 36 U. Mich. J. L. Reform 483, 488 (2003) (emphasis added).

Accordingly, the Arizona Constitution prescribes that “Official Ballot[s]” are to be provided “at the next regular general election” in “such manner that the electors may express at the polls their approval or disapproval of [a] measure.” Ariz. Const. art. 4, § 1(10).

Crack Pipe Distributors Received More Than $5 Million In Federal COVID Loans

Several non-profit organizations that distribute crack pipes as part of smoking kits received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans during the COVID-19 pandemic, a Daily Caller analysis of loan filings found.

The Daily Caller identified eight organizations that received PPP loans and distribute kits with pipe components or a fully assembled smoking device. Those organizations received more than $5 million in PPP loans during the pandemic, including two organizations that received more than $1 million each. The federal government distributed $800 billion in PPP loans during the pandemic, with the majority going to business owners, shareholders, creditors, and suppliers, according to Investopedia.

Seattle’s Downtown Emergency Service Center, a nonprofit organization that conducts outreach to the city’s homeless population, received $1,900,000 in PPP loans in 2021. The organization has distributed “[three] kinds of glass” to patients, who can “get one kind of each pipe a week,” according to materials shared in its shelter and reported on by radio host Jason Rantz.

DESC did not respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment for this story.

The San Francisco AIDS Foundation, an organization founded in 1984, received $1,815,000 in PPP loans in 2020. The group distributes materials such as aluminum foil, pipe covers, and brillo that can be used to create pipes. It also participates in a pipe and syringe program at San Francisco General Hospital, the drug advocacy magazine Filter reported.

SFAF did not respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment for this story.

The data demonstrates the growing acceptance of crack pipe distribution as a component of a “harm reduction” approach to drug policy, in which advocates provide users with paraphernalia and a place to consume drugs with the goal of decreasing communicable diseases and overdoses. Opponents of the approach argue that it subsidizes drug use, crime, and homelessness, and does not help users and addicts lead healthier lives. The harm reduction approach is most commonly associated with the distribution of Naloxone, which prevents opioid overdoses, as well as needle exchanges to prevent the spread of diseases like HIV and hepatitis.

In recent years, public health officials have expanded such programs to include injection sites, where drug users can be monitored in case of an overdose, and “safe smoking kits,” which include mouthpieces for crack pipes, and in some cases, the pipe itself.
